Excitingly unexciting
Saffron? In the first moment I have not imagined that Saffran smells good.
When I then applied the perfume, I first smelled the typical Cotton candle of freshly washed laundry and put the sample directly into the carry-me-to-work box, in which all fragrances end up that smell - fresh, unobtrusive and uninteresting.

But this fragrance lasted stubbornly long and the initial freshness developed darker, more tart, more exciting! The leather shows up late for me, but then clearly. Coupled with the freshness that continues to be present, the scent becomes surprisingly complex and interesting. Exactly what makes a good fragrance for me.

So the sample from the box wandered back into my everyday life and I love him.

Benan's honest opinion
I am not a perfume expert and share here only my opinion on fragrances that I own myself and thus have tested over time. If you do not come clear Schatzis to be called read another review
So my Schatzis today to the Black Saffron of Byredo. I had to be honest Byredo never really on the screen but they have very nice fragrances, which are but (for me) not worth it to buy. But back to the Black Saffron

How does it smell and when can you wear it?
He smells for me full charge of saffron with leather. In the background I recognize a sweet raspberry and light floral notes which act through the saffron and the leather but really only in the background. There are several leather notes, the leather note here reminds me a lot of Ombre leather by Tom Ford, as the note is also a bit woody and somehow more than just leather. A fan of Ombre Leather I am but in itself not at all. However, I really fell in love with this combination in Black Saffron. I learned to like saffron through Mancera's Instant Crush and in Black Saffron I find it just awesome too. It is leathery and sweet but somehow still floral with the spice of saffron and I find the interaction mega unique, seductive but also very suitable for everyday use. You can't really go wrong with it on any occasion. He is good for dates, but also in the office or simply when buying rolls. On the unisex point, I understand that some say the fragrance is feminine because of the sweetness but for me a fragrance with a strong saffron note is suitable for men. In addition, I also see leather more on the masculine side. The Black Saffron is more unisex than, for example, an Instant Crush from Mancera, but for me still rather a men's fragrance (my opinion).

But how is the performance?
It breaks my heart but as with the other Byredo fragrances, the durability and sillage is unfortunately just bad. A working day he does not survive and is after a very short time unfortunately only skin perceptible. In short, as he is also perceptible on the skin.

Conclusion
I find the fragrance really incredibly good and absolutely special. He is not a fragrance where someone says to you, "the fragrance I know yet". I paid my 50ml 120€ and that's just unfortunately not worth it. The durability and sillage are comparable for me with Zara fragrances, which cost 30€ on the 100ml. There is no matter how good he smells, the fragrance does not justify the price. You buy a footballer also not for his appearance and his notoriety but for his performance on the pitch.

Saffron-leather-raspberry, flap the umpteenth...
Received today as a sample, previously remained under the radar and tested with interest. Mhh, smells nice...., but I know you from somewhere!?

First of all, I must briefly interject that I am still new to the 'club of scenties' and my nose is not yet familiar or used to many fragrance directions and creations and therefore still has to get to know and love them.

I am often fascinated by some reviews in which the different nuances and progressions of a fragrance are precisely and skillfully analyzed. Unfortunately, as a novice, I am not yet able to do this and I may never master it.
Nonetheless, I will now attempt a small fragrance analysis or comparison with much better-known fragrances that immediately came to my 'olfactory mind' and which are often mentioned here on Parfumo.

I'll start with the top, heart and base notes of saffron, leather and raspberry, which are distinctive for this fragrance and which I can smell. i think I like saffron. Put any fragrance with saffron in it under my nose and I can get something positive out of it. That doesn't mean I'll give it more than 8 points and immediately run out to get it, but saffron has something - at least in my opinion.

But now really to the fragrance: I am greeted by a lovely, velvety floral note at the start, which is probably the interplay of the saffron, rose and violet combination. I didn't think anything more about this except 'nice, maybe a tad too sweet for me'.
Later on - and unfortunately this fragrance doesn't last long on me either - it clicked and I made associations with Widian London and Kilian Sillage, both of which I like.
From then on, I finally noticed the notes of leather paired with raspberry.
The whole thing is harmoniously combined and finely interwoven, unisex with a tendency towards the female sex.
The durability on my skin (= 'fragrance sponge', which absorbs and neutralizes fine fragrances in no time) is unfortunately average, but fortunately this is not the case with everyone and everyone.
I think the price/performance ratio tends to be good, although its performance is only average for me.

My conclusion: Try it, maybe buy it.

Raspberry Cigarette Ashes: Niche Hot Couture?
Byredo BLACK SAFFRON is not at all what I was expecting. It opens sweetly, like a floriental, reminding me of something along the lines of Linari or maybe one of the new Keiko Mecheri Bespoke perfumes. After a couple of minutes a dominant ash note comes through, reminding me of Boucheron INITIAL. At one moment in the trajectory my thoughts turn to Caron LE 3eme HOMME and ELdO JASMIN ET CIGARETTE. But the sweetness then has a resurgence, and suddenly I do believe that I am in the midst of raspberry, as is listed among the notes.

The saffron is not very evident to my nose in this perfume, at least not the scent of saffron as I've come to recognize it in perfume--or in cooking. Nor do I find this perfume to be very black. It was only on my third wearing, as I reached the bottom of my generous house-produced sample vial, that I realized what BLACK SAFFRON seems to my nose closest to: Givenchy HOT COUTURE.

The raspberry-cigarette ash connection is unmistakable. The big difference is that, while sweet, BLACK SAFFRON is neither cloying nor overly synthetic smelling, and the ashes smell clean, not like a dirty ashtray. Given the manifest similarities between the two compositions, I would definitely recommend BLACK SAFFRON to anyone looking for a higher-quality perfume in the spirit of HOT COUTURE.

Raspberry Dream
A very Good Composition.
I will compare it in my review with Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford and Parfum de Marleys - Godolphin.
I tried it side by side one week with Tuscan Leather and Godolphin as they are all really close in composition!

What I can Say is that Tuscan Leather is more smokey and les raspberry while Black Saffron is less smokey and more raspberry sweet. A femininer Version of Tuscan Leather.
I dont get Leather at Byredos Scent. It is very sweet an more fresh.

Here some specs(max 4 Stars for strengh):

+Tuscan Leather =
Smokey
Raspberry

Saffron

Raspberry

Saffron
Leather (none)
Vetiver / Lemon/ Juniper mix

//////////////////
+Godolphin=

In total it last 4 to 6 hours. Less then Tom Ford and same as Godolphin I would say.
Try it yourself! I prefer Godolphin still. Will update maybe in future my experience. Memos - Italian Leather soon enters the ring! It is kinda close too.

After a deceptively pleasant room-filling opening, morphs into an ashtray that's been blasted with hairspray. A hideous concoction.

It reminded me of TF ombre leather but a bit more sweet and fruity. The vibes are the same. Its decent, more on the masculine side.

A shapeshifter weaving back and forth between the fruity and leathery facets. A very enjoyable ride.

Raspberry with leather. More fruity than leathery, the leather is soft and light. Saffron plays a supporting role in the background.

Drippy raspberry, hint of juniper on a sweet leather base that's not too present unless you're looking for it.
