Vibrant Fruit
I have rarely experienced a fragrance where the top note displays such a pronounced, full citrus fruit aroma without the often accompanying lemon. To be clear, I am only talking about the aroma, as Bateau does not start off sour at all. One feels inclined to bite into bitter grapefruit, juicy blood oranges, and aromatic mandarins. It is also noteworthy that these already unsweetened aromas are supported in the top note by the rather bitter, greener cedarwood. There is no need to wait for Bateau to unfold. I particularly enjoy this opening, and I actually regret that I couldn't experience the fragrance at the beginning of summer.
The heart note does not play a prominent role, as the floral notes merely accompany the cool fruitiness, or the fruitiness extends into the heart, making Bateau just a bit more elegant.
The fragrance is grounded on a rather rough and gray-green base where the incense is used very subtly. This also ensures that Bateau can easily be worn by men.
Bateau never changes its mood throughout its progression. The fragrance flows straightforwardly and remains on theme until the end.
