Ahoy! Hey, I haven't greeted you like this yet! I should do that with a maritime scent! However, today's fragrance has nothing to do with the lake or the sea; it is rather a sandalwood scent with patchouli, namely "Fleur de Santal" by Sinfonia di Note.
A brand that I don't know very well and, to be honest, this is my first time testing a fragrance from them.
Well, I can't think of much to say about it, except that many believe that the scent, despite the name "Fleur," is not floral at all, but I'll see about that. I'm fine with it, as I won't have to struggle to identify the individual floral notes under the most challenging conditions (as always, due to my lack of botanical knowledge). I know, you all already know this about me, but I mention it often, just in case someone reads the comment and doesn't know me yet and doesn't realize how quirky I actually am :D
Anyway, I don't want to ramble on and unnecessarily lengthen the text, which I'm already doing anyway, so I'll finally get to the scent :)
The Scent:
The scent smells of patchouli and then sandalwood. Although I'm not a big fan of patchouli, I must say that the interplay of these two fragrance notes is quite successful, and the top note smells really good. It also has a spicy-sweet background, partly caused by heavy flowers, but as mentioned, I unfortunately can't identify what I'm smelling here.
Later on, it smells much (or actually even more than at the beginning) of sandalwood (and woods in general) and patchouli, and the scent becomes quite spicy. The floral notes become less and less noticeable until I can hardly smell them at all.
If you sniff closely, you can later detect a barely perceptible benzoin resin as well as clean, slightly dark-sweet musk. However, these last two fragrance notes always remain in the background, as the scent, as mentioned, smells very spicy-woody until the end, and the spiciness can even become quite overwhelming at times.
The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is quite good, as it smells very intense and is still easily detectable hours after spraying. However, due to the rather spicy scent, one should really be careful with the dosage, as the spiciness could indeed feel suffocating.
The longevity is therefore also very long-lasting and lasts all day or night.
The Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular, transparent, and thin. On the front, there is a white label with the name and brand of the fragrance, and the cap is black and cylindrical. Everything is very simple, and I find that the bottle looks rather unspectacular because of this.
So, Fleur de Santal is a fragrance that probably won't suit everyone's taste, as it sometimes has a rather heavy spicy scent and thus feels quite demanding. I don't really like that either, so I didn't particularly enjoy the scent myself, but I think it could appeal to some, so I would still recommend giving it a test.
Floral it has indeed not really become (except briefly at the beginning, and it may also be that it only seemed that way to me), it smells, as mentioned, very spicy and woody and indeed has notes of sandalwood, patchouli, and musk. It is definitely a fragrance for autumn and winter, as it comes across as quite heavy. Additionally, it also feels quite mature. Probably suitable for the evening, e.g., for dinner or other social occasions. However, as I said, I wouldn't overdo the dosage, as I believe it represents a spice bomb, so caution! :)
There's really not much more to say about the scent. A test can be worthwhile for some, but in general, it's not necessarily a must. My lower rating is of course just my opinion about the scent, as it really got on my nerves in the middle part and especially from the base with the intense spices.
So, that's it again; now you all have one more fragrance knowledge (which you will probably forget by tomorrow! :D) and I wish you both a nice evening and a lovely weekend (although you will surely hear from me again over the weekend, you know how it is,... so until then or see you soon :)
