A wonderful opening then quickly disappears.
A double zesty zing of Citron and Petitgrain - liquid sunshine - open this, accented by mere hints of Coriander. Drying into the heart, green Shiso and the green floral of cyclamen comes into play. Musk is my major player in the base, followed by grassy vetiver and dry, woody notes. Sillage on my is decent, but longevity is severely lacking, but this an EdC so.... I also could be a bit dehydrated, so that would reduce longevity as well.

Neukölln 10: Number 9. Points 8.
So much in advance: For Mr. Duchaufour and the company Puig, department "L'Artisan Parfumeur", it was not a fireworks of creativity to name this fragrance "My Number 9". For this name, I only give one point. The fragrance deserves a bit more. Details now on this channel.

L'Artisan Parfumeur is - similar to Villoresi from my last comment in this series - a moderate luxury label, albeit one that belongs to a large corporation, and one where various big noses can let loose. With this label, you don't necessarily think of colognes, and yet LAP even offers a series with six waters, of which at least 4 also meet my personal definition of cologne (the others are tendentially floral colognes without citrus or otherwise fresh notes). This is the first one I am testing.

In my (superficial) first test some time ago, I found the fragrance unspecifically nice, gave it 8 points, and wrote a somewhat inspired statement. Yesterday, I tested it more deeply and was (then immediately) thrilled. A fragrance that reaches me in the heart and evokes childhood memories, in this case memories of overnight stays in mountain huts and hikes in the Alps:

Sprayed on, and shutters are thrown open: Bright, dense, citrusy yellow sunlight streams in, but not the glaring, harsh light of southern latitudes, nor Mediterranean radiance: This is the strong, rich morning light on a mountain pasture. The hesperidic notes immediately blend with the herbaceous, damp scent of straw from the hayloft, and a steaming green (mist veil of dew-soaked meadow; perhaps also that it rained during the night). Everywhere is also the scent of flowers, fertilized and then trampled by cattle, with a hint of violet bitterness yet still enchantingly gentle.

This mélange of muted citrus-fresh with herbaceous-floral, damp-green, and earthy-herbaceous notes creates a wonderfully composed whole, a dynamic nature symphony that is stretched somewhere in my coordinate system between Eau de Campagne by Sisley and Valeria by Harry Lehmann (which is a great compliment for me). By the way, the scent impression does change in the first two or three hours, with sweeter and resinous-balsamic tones coming to the forefront, but the overall impression, including very resilient citrus notes, remains intact. I was inclined to sing the praises of Master Duchaufour once again and raise it to at least 9 points. By the way: A green-herbaceous natural cologne (remotely related to HL's New York); despite cardamom and coriander, it is not a brown spicy cologne.

Today, a third test with just a small remainder, which I only sprayed on my wrist, under everyday conditions. And a certain sobering set in. Because "Number 9" proves to be not only very long-lasting for a cologne (five to six hours), but also almost enervatingly projecting and, unfortunately, not beautiful anymore in the final phase. AndYouAndI in her comment from five years ago is completely right! The fragrance is only beautiful as long as the lemons play along! In the drydown, this is no longer the case, and then Number 9 becomes strangely, disharmoniously sweet-floral-earthy, yes, I even find it at times to be piercingly cool and artificial.

Very unfortunate. This could have been a love affair. So, a descent into the valley, a return to the city, and a sober evaluation: Just under 8.

P.S.: Price 120 euros for 100 ml.

The Silence in the Woods
“Mon Numéro 9” was a total blind buy. It’s not really my style, and it usually goes wrong. The brand and the perfumer were decisive factors, and not least the fact that summer is approaching and the ingredients sound quite appealing. After the first spray, I hopped around the apartment in joy - could my blind purchase turn out to be a real hit?

The citron is super zesty, but it doesn’t come off too sour; instead, it is initially accompanied by a bitterness that I find exceptionally pleasant. This start is quite delicious! To be honest, I can’t get enough of it; it’s such a “I-want-more!” fragrance experience. As is fitting for a true citron, it doesn’t remain solely sour or bitter, but brings along an underlying sweetness that makes this scent incredibly tasty and pleasing. Soon, I smell the rhubarb leaf, although I would never have guessed that’s what it is, but you can definitely smell the green, and it fits well with the start. And then, after not even an hour, the super delicious citron unfortunately runs out of steam, and - yes, I know, it’s an Eau de Cologne, that’s how it can and should be, and for all I care, it’s even appropriate - I am a bit disappointed. The green bitterness lingers for a while, and the resins slowly shine through, giving the scent a somewhat woody, coniferous quality. Nevertheless: The harmony of this (and surely not just this) fragrance, according to my nose, clearly lies in the interplay of top, heart, and base, and the scent loses a lot of charm as soon as the (extremely delicious!) top note disappears; it brings about the great silence in the woods. That can be nice too. The good thing is: you can reapply, and then everything is back, and it all smells wonderful, really, incredibly tasty. Still, I have to replace the originally awarded 90% in the excitement of my blind buy with 80%, and this beautiful Eau de Cologne truly deserves that despite the mentioned weaknesses. I have become curious about all the other Numéros and am already toying with the idea of a bunker bottle of “Mon Numéro 9” for the summer.

Longevity: Unfortunately, the top note weakens quite quickly here, but overall you get a good 3-4 hours of the scent.

Sillage: Quite decent at the beginning, but with the departure of the citron, it becomes rather close to the skin.

Target group: Completely unisex, bam!

Occasion: Spring, summer, everyday - the scent is very pleasing, absolutely suitable for work, for me it’s not a date or going-out fragrance, but a daily all-rounder. Don’t forget to bring a refreshment!

Conclusion: An absolute test recommendation for all Cologne and citrus fans. I am very curious about more Numéros from Duchaufour!

En Voyage chez l'Artisan Parfumeur:16 Mon Numéro 9 - Pisco Sour

Citrusy, green, and fresh scents - I often don’t get lost in this fragrance direction. Of course, one enjoys smelling fresh, but most scents in this category are too one-dimensional for me, touching neither my emotions nor my imagination.
Quite the opposite of this one, which reminds me of my time in South America two years ago when I visited my brother. The story is slightly adapted to emphasize the scent associations.

I stroll through the streets of Cusco, Peru. The air is thin, my lungs have not yet adjusted to the altitude, I had just overcome my mild altitude sickness yesterday and had to get out of my hostel bed.
It wasn’t late yet when I was drawn to a bar on the slopes of the former Inca city. A hidden gem according to Lonely Planet, one of the most popular travel guides. And so the hidden gem was no longer a secret, as one backpacker joined the next. A room full of young people, thirsty as they were experiencing the most exciting time of their lives so far.
Strangely enough, this bar had a very Western vibe, tequila shots were being prepared. The usual mess of lemon juice, alcohol, and salt was hastily wiped up with a bunch of crisp green twigs by a bartender in a dusty jacket, who was far too old for this party. You could see it on him, and you could smell it in his Eau de Cologne, which was far too classic for this place. Something familiar yet forgotten, leaning towards Fougere. Repelled by the backpackers, although I was one myself, I was drawn to the back corner of the bar with my Pisco Sour.
I observed the little man, his wrinkled face, stretched with weather-beaten skin. What was this man doing here? Was it just a job, or did he feel comfortable in this place that didn’t quite fit Peru?
What had his life been like before the great tourism and travel boom that so drastically influenced this country? And was he satisfied with the change?
I didn’t stay long at this bar, I didn’t care much for the music and was still a bit wobbly on my feet.

On the way back to the hostel, the memory of the old Peruvian's cologne had long faded.

The scent doesn’t directly have anything alcoholic, but the well-crafted citrus makes me think of cocktails. Really nice for summer.
And unlike most good scents from l'Artisan Parfumeur, this one is not yet discontinued.
Sillage and longevity are not as low as described here on average; for the fragrance direction, it hits the average.

Thank you for reading my comment.

For me, the best mood lifter in any season.
Zesty, fresh, herbal, Mon Numéro 9 comes along and instantly brightens my mood. The freshness develops into a pleasantly woody note after a while, which, at least for me, is perceptible for at least 6 to 7 hours. Unobtrusive, natural, and friendly. An incredibly beautiful scent. For me, the best *blind buy* of this year, thanks to your review!
Rose? I couldn't recognize it that way. But then again, I'm not a perfume specialist. :)

Smells almost identical to Odeur 53 by CdG, which I actually like a bit better. Green, slightly bitter, creamy-sweet.

Very nice citrus scent. What starts as lemon turns into vetiver, so it remains a fresh, good fragrance. Longevity is okay.

Fresh citrus scent with a very zesty lemon. Bitter + not too sour. Floral + cardamom included. In the dry down, woody and unremarkable.

Lemon, rose, patchouli - lightly ethereal, a dreamy combo that lasts long and falls asleep in a soft spicy wooden bed. Beautiful!

Full, dark premium lemon, mature and multifaceted. Beneath the sparkling acidity, resin and spice notes work on the complex overall picture.

Refreshing lemon-lime note, light woodiness, a hint of bitterness underlined with fine floral accords - an everyday all-rounder.
