Neat woody/aquatic with motor oil, well-executed
This is a review for the 2020 re-release of #087, one of the new trio of limited edition “Essentials” releases from Six Scents Parfums / Parfums Quartana Joseph Quartana. All three 2020 releases seem to take their names from earlier releases in the 2008-2011 and are described similarly. #087 was previously releases in 2011 as “Six Scents Series Three #5. N. Hoolywood.”
It involves a neat blend of woods (cypress, pine), marine notes, rosemary, and motor oil. So it’s fresh, salty, woody, and slightly herbal/spicy, featuring a notable motor oil note. I like gasoline / motor oil types of accords when used in moderation, and it’s an effective wild card to take the blend of #087 from very familiar to slightly familiar territory in a good way, pushing the boundaries of creative perfume.
#087 reminds me slightly of Imaginary Authors Every Storm a Serenade but without ESAS’ aquatic focus and heavy calone note that for me is its signature. #087 feels rather like it has aquatic aspects but is more grounded in the woody center, and again, features that motor oil note that’s so fun and different.
#087 is priced at $63 for 30ml in EDT concentration, and the $2/ml mark for me is always very reasonable for niche/independent perfumes.
I love this type of innovation—I’ll be picking up a bottle.
