A popular limited perfume by Slumberhouse for women and men, released in 2011. The scent is resinous-spicy. Projection and longevity are above-average. The production was apparently discontinued.

Appealing Gourmand
Think of Norne mixed with Zahd but without the former's ashes or the latter's candy. At first, Brosse seems a gourmand in the style of Serge Lutens' Arabie which conjurs Christmas and plum pudding. Brosse is less plummy. It has more hearth than Arabie, but it too reminds me of Christmas. On skin, however, something fresh and beautiful rises above the general date-fig-clove-wood atmosphere. For me, it makes Brosse more wearable than some of the Slumberhouse wonder scents. Don't get me wrong. I love them, want to own them all. Each is a not-to-be-missed smell event. Brosse, like New Sibet, is one I'll regularly be spraying on. Must find out what that lovely top note is. A citrusy floral?

I love Brosse
A few words about Brosse, which I have fallen head over heels for:

Brosse starts off smoky-resinous, accompanied by a slightly metallic note. After a few minutes, the smoke fades and the scent becomes softer and warmer. The metallic note continues to linger gently. Here and there, I can detect a hint of cinnamon. Vanilla is consistently noticeable, complemented by a few other spicy notes that I can't quite identify. When I smell Brosse, I imagine a roaring fireplace over old oak floorboards while I sit in an armchair sipping a glass of whisky. The whole experience is underscored by woody notes reminiscent of old wooden planks. A few times, I was also reminded of Baque, albeit with an added smokiness. The scent later becomes a bit sweeter and occasionally has a slightly sticky aura. Even in the base, I occasionally perceive metallic nuances, which makes the whole thing really exciting, given that it simultaneously has a warm-resinous-sweet character. A few months ago, I tested a sample of Brosse, but I didn't like it as much. Now, after a long time of wearing Brosse again and having the scent in a bottle, I like it significantly better, if not extremely well. I'm not entirely sure if this is the batch that Josh Lobb didn't want to sell. For that, Brosse is quite good, and I'm surprised that he released the scent for free (if this is indeed the corresponding batch).

Officially, no scent notes were ever published for this fragrance, but Josh Lobb (presumably in a private email correspondence) mentioned scent notes, which I am providing here (information without guarantee):

These are the only notes/ingredients that he shared:
hydrocarboresin, dynamone, ambrain, ambranum, ambrarome, rum CO2, red mandarin, benzoin, spices, vanilla, aged coffee resin, and other undisclosed ingredients

Loosely translated:
Hydrocarboresins, dynamone, ambrein, ambranum, ambrarome, rum CO2, red mandarin, benzoin, spices, vanilla, aged coffee resin, and other unnamed ingredients.

Brosse is fantastic to wear in cold weather and probably fits extremely well into the winter/Christmas season, as it creates a warming aura around you.
Probably one of the best Slumberhouses that I have been able to test.

Thank you for reading :-)

Lady of Darkness
Somewhere in the south.
The moon hangs askew.
The night is deaf and mute.

Sitting in a heavily smoked pub,
a guy notices a young lady.
But his vision is still blurred.
Puffing away, he sits there. Sipping his cognac.
Sweat beads are really getting to him.
The air is thick with various tobacco notes.
Again and again, liquid enters the scene.
It feels strict yet flowing at the same time.
He looks through the dense fog, full of smoke
and now sees a woman dressed in deep black.

The lady in black takes a seat right next to him.
Suddenly, his heart stops for a second.
Half-drunk and aware of the stuffy air,
he reaches for the lady in black.
Smiling, she reciprocates his approach and takes his hand.
"Come with me out of this hell, let’s dive into absolute nothingness!"

He followed her, not even knowing where to.
Deep into the forest they went.
Enchanting scents sank into his soul.
Tar adorned his thoughts.
She smelled of smoke. Cold and warm at the same time.
Dense and rough. Of sugar and whip.
She simply smelled of desire.

The forest felt mystical,
giving the moment an unforgettable night.
The deeper they went, the more he thought,
how dangerous the situation itself was.

The lady of darkness had him in her grasp.
She simply took him with her.

Every time she touched him,
he felt a deep warmth.
Deep sunbeams illuminated the dark mood.
Resinous and shimmering, a whispering scent of sand and cinnamon in the background.
He could give her his life right away, even though he didn’t even know her.
He would die, just for this moment.
For the scent is so enchanting, so comforting and pleasantly warm, that he could bask in the shadow of this woman.
Although a black cloak envelops her, he feels the warmth,
that is hidden beneath the darkness.

And everywhere hangs this sweet smoke.
So dense and rough that it takes his breath away every time.
Then again this whip that jolts him awake.

They ventured even deeper into the forest,
then she looked deep into his eyes and asked if he wanted to spend the rest of the night with her.
Deeply immersed in a pleasurable moment,
he reached out to her,
whispered to her: And if you go to the ends of this world,
I will go with you, lady of darkness.

Campfire
Come sit by the campfire. In the woods. It's getting cool and we add more wood. What we found. It was warm the last few days and the needles and bark crackle as the fire embraces them. Warm and aromatic, the last sap of the fallen branches evaporates. Resinous drops glow briefly and release their fragrance.
We wait until only the embers remain and the dance of the flames finally rests. The warmth still on our skin, we rise at dawn to move on. The forest in our clothes. A welcome guest. And a loyal companion.

Brosse is a scent like the glowing heart of a forest. Resin, cones, and wood. Burning together into a wonderful smoky note. Full-bodied. Full of warmth. The scent reminds me a bit of Oud 777, at least in the context of the resinous aromas that dominate this fragrance, alongside the slightly smoky aspect.

As always with Josh Lobbs' fragrances, the name is entirely fictional, but it always sounds somewhat Nordic. As always, it is an extrait that truly lives up to its name. Similar to Oud 777, after spraying, this slight oiliness and deep dark color is another aspect that marks the beginning of the fragrance journey and immediately captivates me. It enchants me. It mesmerizes.

Brosse is absolutely suitable for everyday wear. It vibrates with warmth and radiates massively, especially in the current summer temperatures (above 30 degrees). While other fragrances tend to be close to the skin in heat, Brosse skillfully maintains projection and mood for over 12+ hours. With a higher dosage, it even withstands showers and the daily limit. In the drydown, I smell amber and sandalwood, simply wonderful.

I can recommend the scent to anyone who enjoys resinous-smoky fragrances. They don't belong only in autumn or winter. If one were to describe Brosse with just one color, it would be difficult. Let's say camouflage? Warm brown and dark green. Your pulse as an accelerant.

A typical brand mix of lots of resin, a bit of smoke, and wood. Not bad, but somehow I'm done with it.
