Luca Turin’s nose is broken
I’m hardly his biggest fan, and I tend to think What is he talking about?! with at least 50% of his fragrance reviews, so when I saw that he gave this fragrance four stars I literally did a triple-take because I just could not believe that anybody would rate this fragrance so high. It is an unapologetic cinnamon stick right out of the pantry, jarring, oils oozing out, bitter to the point of causing nausea, uninspired, amateuristic thing that smells as though someone who didn’t realize that cinnamon essential oil would take over everything haphazardly dumped it in. The whole concoction to me is just totally unbalanced. I don’t know if this is what the perfumer was going for on purpose, but to me it is extremely unpleasant. I get some very nice herbs and a realistic Bay rum scent that is actually so realistic that I was grateful it didn’t last. It too was sickening and unbalanced. Luca gives it 4 stars, but I have to give it 1. Test first! I don’t think I’ve ever found a fragrance so gross.
Now here’s the kicker. He absolutely bashed Tanja Bochnig and her method of infusing crystal energy into her blends, and he referred to her fragrances as hippy fragrances—this about a perfumer who demonstrates exceptional skill in the extremely difficult art of blending natural materials and the talent to make them last a long time. Soivohl says, “Soivohle is an acronym it stands for…Sending Out Inspired Vibrations Of Healthy Loving Energy” and where’s his complaint about the hippy dippiness of that? He should stick to reviewing fragrances and stop insulting people personally. His manners are on par with Trump.
