The British Barber with Decorum & Etiquette
Before I received some samples of this classic Cologne brand from Fishlandmen, I had never heard of Taylor of Old Bond Street. It hardly gets more niche and under-the-radar than this. But somewhat unjustly, as the brand offers a lot for Cologne lovers who appreciate British understatement, and the shops in Berlin are definitely worth a visit!
Shaving Shop - A Superb Gentleman's Cologne (what a silly name^^) smells citrusy and woody, much more classic than, for example, Eton College from the same brand, which I was testing at the same time. I smell a modernly trimmed 1711 and a British gentleman par excellence! Only the slightly too strong spices, especially sage, bother me a bit, and it could be even better and more modern. I like Eton College just a little bit better. But Shaving Shop is also good, delivering exactly what the name promises. Simple barbershop feeling of the upper class. You absolutely can't go wrong with it, but it also doesn't have enough new or exciting to make you want to buy it. Quick recap: Citrus, wood, spices, a bit of smoke, soap.
The bottle is classic and as far away from spectacle as one can get. Sillage and longevity embody everything that is often criticized about classic Colognes and unfortunately falter a bit too much.
Here, elegance, classicism, and modernity meet for a cozy tea time... not for the youth, but for all men with style and a penchant for classic luxury and masculinity!
