Ye Olde... Underrated... Masterpiece!!
The Gentleman's Cologne by ToOBS? Most people don't know it. Those who shave classically with a straight razor or safety razor know the company from the UK as a manufacturer of great shaving soaps and creams. The Sandalwood seems to be the bestseller.

This gem here seems to be hardly known. A total of 31 reviews here testify to that, which is surprising. Why? No idea!

The elegantly shaped bottle comes with a blue label and a rather high-quality screw cap.

The scent opens fresh-green. Citrus notes also come through. Then you notice the mossy, spicy elements. A wonderful fougere. Prototype-like. The whole thing then fades out spicy-fresh and green.

The performance is moderate, rather weak. Just as one would imagine a cologne. The experience, intense and penetrating, takes place in the first half hour.
Then it becomes subtle. Time and again, you get a faint whiff of this beautiful composition.

ToOBS has done everything right here. This little water is a real blockbuster.

Fougere fans unite and get yourselves this great water!

Simplicity in its most beautiful form
Mr. Taylor is, alongside Eton College, the second Cologne from Taylor of Old Bond Street that has completely convinced me, and it has long deserved a comment. I won't beat around the bush here, as Mr. Taylor doesn't either.
It is advertised as a Fougère, and that is absolutely true. The center here is lavender. It is dominant throughout the entire duration. We are not talking about laundry detergent lavender, but real, natural lavender oil. And with all the herbal edges and nuances that real lavender has. I have some in my garden, and this Cologne immediately conjures up the image of it in full bloom in my mind.
According to the manufacturer, cedar oil and patchouli oil were also used in the base. I can identify both as well. They give the rather skin-close Cologne a secure hold for many hours. The remaining notes in the fragrance pyramid are only present in a hint and round off the composition without distorting the main theme.
Mr. Taylor comes across as very simply charming. (even if it might not be that at all) It does not seek to surprise, stand out, overpower, or transform.
Lavender, green, wood. Done.
But in absolutely the best quality.

Mr. Taylor is one of the few Colognes that can be worn for any occasion, at any age, and with any wardrobe.
As long as you like lavender.

When simplicity is at its best.
Fougère in its honest basic structure.
Herb, slightly floral, mossy, woody.

Crisp, typical fougère with a coumarin note, classic rose geranium, and a mossy base. Warm, subtle leather tones are plausible.

Aged-spicy, herby, with a hint of soap, then classically leathery but intensely-distinguished. I like it.

Uncompromisingly classic-spicy, with a "boozy" note. Rather rough, but actually a nice guy.

No review needed. But in a positive way: Old-school lavender shifts into a herbal-bitter note after a short top. Remarkable & pleasant.

Classic, herbaceous green lavender fougère. What a great piece! Wonderful! It captivated me immediately. Performance is moderate.
