Unforgettable Patchouli
It's autumn; summer (even the Indian summer we had) is gone or well on its way out. My floral flirtations of summer are slowly replaced with my preferred olfactory "fix" of this season; orientals.

Sandalwood, leather, musk or in this case patchouli. Dark sweet smooth velveteen patchouli was what I craved this week, a bottle of Inoubliable Elixir Patchouli was needed to cuddle me during the crisp yet sunny days and lead me into the sunlight deprived days that are only getting shorter.

You see, my mother is Française and always loved the House of Réminiscence. People might think that the French use litres of Chanel, Dior, Hermes et cetera. Mais oui! They love and use the wonderful creations of French perfumery, but Houses like Réminiscence are their little secrets. Mostly only available in France and containing note mixtures that not everyone might think a good idea, they are a treat for people who are tired of mainstream and want something truly unusual yet still affordable.

"Inoubliable Elixir Patchouli" is the patchouli for people who normally wouldn't like that note, or for people who think it's a "hippy" smell. This beauty isn't, it's an magical mystery ride that shows your olfactory sense all the ways that patchouli can charm you: woody, green, smoky, sweet. I could try and explain in the limitations of words (English is not my native tongue...I would be struggling even if I tried : ) how the notes intermingle and give you a sense of: "Wow! I had NO idea patchouli based perfume could smell this good!!" but it is a ride best taken by oneself.
It's true and obvious by now; I am a fan and if you like patchouli or not, sample this beauty if you get the chance, I promise you will be amazed!

Silage is....Well...."unusual and oh so pretty" -- Longevity is an amazing 10+ hours. Now, don't think it's a linear patchouli in the vein of: "read my palm" experience, it isn't! It's a yummy oriental beauty for the true connoisseur of unusual quality. Try and sample it, it will be out little French secret! ; ) Good luck and enjoy!

Dreamy sigh...
A warm, spicy & magical patchouli potion. Unlike the syrupy-sweet and accessible type you may find in fragrances like Flowerbomb.. This patchouli is instead, a dark, earthy and slightly dirty offering. The thick resins come off as incensey, and form an oh-so very bohemian cloud of smoky sillage (that will likely last for more hours than you are awake in a given day!).

After about an hour of wear, the dirtiness wanes, while the sticky sweetness seeps out. It becomes almost... edible (yet never approaches the cloying territory). If you're fond of patchouli, you simply must try this one - there's nothing quite like it. It's advertised as for women, but it's neither feminine or masculine, it just makes for a great fragrance for anyone.

This is a really, really nice patchouli.
With the exception of Chanel Coromandel, which is pretty much universally agreed to be a unicorn, I have never met a patchouli I've liked. Oh, I've met patchoulis I've respected: Lady Vengeance, Sticky Fingers, Lord of Misrule. But I don't enjoy them, and I wouldn't wear them.

Patchouli Elixir almost works for me. Almost. There's nothing skanky or moldy here, no Eau de Cheap Weed. It has that combination of crispness and softness I associate with falling backwards into a leaf pile. And that image is appropriate, because this is firmly an autumn fragrance, even an October fragrance. It's giving black cats and carved pumpkins and grimoires with yellowed pages. The earthiness rises up from skin like wisps of smoke from a banked bonfire, warming without overwhelming.

It's really something special. If ever I was going to fall in love with patchouli, this would be the one.

Nothing tops this in the ambery patch genre
This is my absolute favorite in the ambery patch category, and every time my wandering eye alights upon other ambery-patch scents, and I head off to explore, I return to Inoubliable Elixir with my tail between my legs. I’m going to call it right now – Inoubliable Elixir is the Joanne Woodward to my Paul Newman. So, what does the steak of patchouli scents offer that the hamburgers of the category do not?

My answer is depth. Now, the basic structure of the ambery patch template never changes that wildly. With two such heavy, rich accords – patchouli and amber – there can always be minute variations in pacing (i.e., adjusting the point in the scent’s development at which the amber turns up to dunk the patch in its much-needed bath of hot, resinous caramel) and decoration (spices, floral notes, citrus), but the crux remains that balance between the leafy earthiness of patchouli and the voluptuous sweetness of amber.

Inoubliable Elixir trounces its competitors by ensuring that its patchouli and its amber go miles deep in flavor. The patchouli is raw, pungent, and almost feral, its darkness lifted a little by a bitter, grassy vetiver, a material that sings in the same earthy register as patchouli but inhabits the surface of earth’s crust, when sunshine and water still penetrate. The basic amber accord has been thickened here with a generous dressing of both tolu balsam, a South American resin that smells simultaneously like liquidambar, crushed ‘hot’ spices like cloves and cinnamon, and melted beeswax candles, and tonka bean, which throws in its roughened, tobacco-ish, almond cream heft for good measure.

When the dirty, greenish patchouli smashes into this thick, sexy, red-gold amber, it smells like I wish my skin would smell like naturally. I wish to live in this smell, roll around in it, have my pores exude it. Mind you, I own only the original version of this and don’t know how the modern version (in the clear bottle) measures up. But if it smells anything like the stuff that comes out of my wavy gold bottle, then there is no reason to ever stray, as it is perfection. It is also, like, €45 for a 100ml bottle. Patchouli by Reminiscence is similar to Inoubliable Elixir Patchouli but much lighter (think 40% of the full whack of Inoubliable Elixir), so I like to wear that in summer.

At night, when everything is asleep
At night the world stops, all the hustle and bustle disappears and life seems more eternal to me than during the day.

At night, when my family is asleep, I belong to myself all alone Nobody makes demands, has expectations, demands for my attention ....nobody watches me being mere.
I am alone, but not lonely.

At night I can do what I want, be who I want, think how I want, and be quiet without interruption as long as I want.

At night I often sit on my romper chair, cuddled up in a fleece bathrobe and blanket, watch one episode after another of my favourite series or write as I did just now - a bar of chocolate and a cup of tea next to me, which is unavoidable for me as a sugarholic
At night in winter the whole thing is most comfortable.
Through the balcony door I see the tender, dense, glittering flakes, sometimes I also open the door to hear the soft crackling of the falling snow and to be able to snuggle myself even deeper into my blanket against the cold, hold my warm cup in my hands, savour my chocolate and simply enjoy that I am.

At night it smells of cuddly blankets, chocolate, spiced tea, darkness and sometimes snow.
Enveloping, warming, peaceful and silent.

And that's how Patchouli Elixir smells - of time for myself.

A slightly darker take on Reminiscence Patchouli, also slightly sweeter and earthier. Value-wise, the OG is winning, but this isn't far.
