Spicy multifaceted patchouli, well done
Essential Parfums Patchouli Mania is the last sample of my discovery set of nine purchased via Ministry of Scent, and it’s, as one would expect, centered on patchouli, a bit fresh, spicy, and earthy, with some sweet touches, also—overall, a quite multifaceted aromatic blend and no so patchouli-rich as to be an immediate turnoff for the patchouli-weary amongst us. It has a bit of stereotypically yearround men’s signature scent vibe, as well, useful and versatile and not too heavy, but also is inherently a nod to patchouli fans. I quite like it, even though it’s not among my very favorite scents of the discovery set.

As with the rest of the main collection, Patchouli Mania is EDP concentration and priced at $96 for 100ml (with a more modest $24 for 10ml travel spray option, which I love) and sold in the US at boutiques like Ministry of Scent, among others. It performs quite well, also, so the value is even greater.

Green patchouli bomb
Turns out this is the strongest patchouli I've ever experienced and I do not like it (unfortunately), I was looking at the notes before ordering the discovery set, and thought oh that might smell like a subtle nutty, dark chocolate. But it doesn't.
This starts of with an assassination to my nose with patchouli and proceeds to kidnap my braincells with how green it is, I dont get cocoa and I dont get tea or nuts, its very in your face up close at first, as it dries down its more pleasant, however I would never wear this, I do think someone might enjoy this as a fall scent though, just not for me.

If only it lasted longer..
Patchouli is always a 50/50 affair for me. However, having tested all the Essential fragrances apart from "Rosé Magnetic", I still wanted to give it a try.

My first impression of the fragrance was overwhelming: strong, very tart and herbaceous, with a distinct cocoa note. I actually like cocoa, but somehow it didn't fit here at first, especially as I hardly smelled any patchouli. So my first impression was: nope!

But after about 10 minutes, the very intense and tart note was gone and suddenly the fragrance was completely different. Round and balanced. It was only slightly herbaceous, and now the patchouli note was also clearly perceptible and combined with the cocoa to create a velvety and elegant note. Really beautiful!

Unfortunately, the fragrance has one negative thing in common with the other fragrances from Essential Parfums: the sillage and longevity really leave a lot to be desired. I think that's such a shame, otherwise I would definitely have bought it straight away!

Surprisingly good
I was allowed to test the Patchouli Mania as a bottling. The "Bois Impérial | Essential Parfums" had already left a nice impression, why not test other fragrances from the house?
On spraying, the patchouli is immediately there, but very green and earthy. There is a slightly peppery tickle in the nose, but the listed coriander could be the culprit.

A few minutes later, beautiful, floral and creamy accords are added, the patch becomes brighter and more cheerful, light green joins in.

For me, a good mood fragrance that doesn't develop much but performs well. I find it unisex, great for all ages, but you should already like patchouli because here you get the full patchouli threat + synthetic club. I think it's great

Thank you for reading my review, and best regards

I tend to not like patchouli. Smelled the test strip and there's zero chance I want to smell like this. Confirmed my gut instinct to avoid it/this.

Patchouli in its truest form, medicinal yes but also very earthy and damp. Almost reminds me of a swamp (not in a bad way though).

I feel it like a balsamic mint. Poor performance.

A dense, sweet patchouli with earthy and dusty notes-galore. Not really gourmand. A bit too mature-leaning, a bit too much for my tastes.

Initially a very sweet patchouli, over time wears down to a warm woody base.

Sterile, almost medicinal take on patchouli. Lacks depth or some kind of twist. Feels flat and artificial.

Green and earthy. Like you walk into a garden center. Something a gardener could wear. Truly patchouli.

Little presence on my skin, sadly, and the base smell isn't great, but the 90 minutes of shapeshifting patchouli you get here is pleasant.

Earthy and cocoa, but quite light patchouli with a hint of tea. It's a shame that the hazelnut from the opening disappears so quickly.
