A War of Roses is Not a War for Roses!
Hello, fragrance lovers!

Like almost every evening, I have brought a fragrance description today as well. However, today it’s about a scent that unfortunately no longer exists because it was one of those fragrances that were limited edition, and you can only get your hands on such a scent with a bit of luck.

It’s about the “Rock the Ages” collection from Jo Malone, which may sound like a rock festival from the last decades, but actually represents a kind of historical tour through some eras of English history. Due to a lack of samples, I can only present this one scent for now, namely “Tudor Rose & Amber,” which is quite practical since this scent represents the Tudor era and thus (considering the collection) is the first stop in this fragrance series, which must be set between the years 1485 - 1603. I hope to be able to try the other scents and thus the other historical eras over time as well.

But let’s start with the Tudors, whose ruler (Henry Tudor) from the House of Lancaster defeated Richard III from the House of York during the Wars of the Roses, then married Princess Elizabeth from the House of York, and thus became King Henry VII.
WAKE UP! I know many of you get a bit bored during history class, but it goes on a little :D
So, open your books to page 271, and there we learn that with what I just told you, the Wars of the Roses were ended and both houses were united, although one should not imagine that it was a war about or with roses :D
No, both conflicting parties had a rose as a coat of arms or logo (the House of York had the white rose, the House of Lancaster the red rose), hence the name of the war! At least, that’s what I believe! :D
After the war, as both houses were united, the roses were also combined, so that the Tudor Rose was now a white-red rose. Well, and now there’s the scent to go with it :D

Hmm… I’ll say it again: Wake up, people!
I hope you’re still there and that my little history lesson hasn’t bored you too much or even scared you away!

The Scent:
Hmm, somehow you can smell everything that is listed below right from the start. Well, okay, I don’t smell the ginger yet, but everything else is already present in varying intensities from the very beginning. True to its name, the rose is the most prominent note; it smells nice, slightly sour-floral, well, like roses do, you know! :D
There’s a small portion of cloves, which are quite weak, and you can only perceive them if you really sniff closely at the sprayed spot. The amber, on the other hand, is more noticeable, and it smells quite pleasant with its light-sweet scent.
Only gradually can I also smell the ginger. There are also somehow more floral notes. These feel a bit heavier and even slightly sultry, making the scent a bit more mature. However, this impression doesn’t last long. Well, the scent does give an opulent impression regarding floral notes, but it’s not sultry or overwhelming, which I appreciate. In any case, the scent also becomes a bit warmer, which many might also like.
Later, it continues to smell mostly of roses with a nice amber sweetness. All other fragrance notes are then too weak to be worth mentioning. Much later, however, the amber is a bit more in the foreground, and the scent also appears slightly spicier. Overall, a lovely scent, even if it’s nothing really new in terms of rose fragrances, but still nice.

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is good, not spectacular, but good enough to be noticeable for a while. Yes, I write “noticeable,” because despite the unisex label here, the scent is, once again..., clearly a women’s fragrance! The longevity is quite good, easily lasting eight hours. Actually even more, but at a rather late stage, the scent is very close to the skin, which is also nice to occasionally sniff on your arm or something :)

The Bottle:
Hmm… while I find the standard bottles from Jo Malone a bit boring, I often prefer the special editions of the limited fragrances. The Tudor scent comes in a 30 mL rectangular and slim bottle, as you already know from the 30 mL versions of the Malone bottles. Only this one has a beautiful burgundy label. A burgundy fabric or suede has been applied to the chrome-plated cap (I’m not sure, as I unfortunately didn’t have the bottle in hand), which also looks very nice. Yes, I find the bottle quite beautiful!

So, I almost expected it, but I find the scent successful. Of course, it’s nothing for us men, and some women also seem not to like rose fragrances that much, but for those who don’t have a particular aversion to rose scents, they might want to check this one out. Well, that will be difficult since the scent no longer exists and was limited anyway, but just in case you should see it somewhere…
And if not, it’s not really a big deal.

Because honestly, the scent is good, but it also smells like many other beautiful rose fragrances (of course, every scent has its little differences, but sometimes you have to search for those with a magnifying glass, oh you know what I mean!), so you’re not missing out on too much, except maybe a beautiful bottle. This is only really unfortunate for fans of the brand who want to collect these limited fragrances; olfactorily, there are indeed quite a few similar ones.

Otherwise, this scent was for me a women’s fragrance that could have been used as an all-rounder. So for any season, for many occasions. Yep, quite nice! So then, have a lovely evening and a wonderful weekend :)
