Interesting Facts
This fragrance is apparently officially considered to be the first perfume in history and was already known as rosemary spirit around 1300 and said to be later offered under the names "Aqua Hungarica", "Aqua Reginae Hungaricae" and "Eau de la Reine d'Hongrie/de Hongrie". Legends from the 17th century say it was made around 1370 specifically for an Elisabeth/Isabella of Poland, Queen of Hungary. However, the truth of the legends, the existence of an Hungarian queen matching the legends and the use of a name with a connection to Hungary before the first decades of the 17th century have not yet been proven. The smelling water is said to have initially consisted of a mixture of rosemary extract and ethanol, the recipe of which is said to have changed over the years.
