Decent Oriental spicy scent
No offense for the Germans, but so many German fragrances of the last 20-30 years share something really similar in my opinion. A sort of penchant for loud notes, spicy sweetness, and an overall feel of cheapness. Wolfgang by Joop is partially no exception, although it smells better than other fragrances I have in mind thinking of German “cheap-os” (some Boss and recent Baldessarini, or stuff by Aigner, Lagerfeld, and Joop themselves). Somehow slightly similar to Dunhill Desire Red at the beginning, but with a couple of different notes, notably a sweet Oriental powdery-nutty-spicy accord that seems comprising cinnamon, tonka, also something powdery and slightly honeyed (it may just be cinnamon playing tricks, though). Imagine this blended with lavender, a “laundry” musk note and some conventional balsamic-woody structure topped with citrus and orange – more orange than citrus. So in short at its early stages Wolfgang is basically a sort of Oriental spicy scent on the powdery-balsamic side, topped with a fun sweet-citrus note smelling more like orange candies than orange fruits. The evolution is unexpectedly really nice, bringing Wolfgang to a spicy cinnamon-vetiver drydown (similar to the cloves-infused vetiver note in Loewe7) which is really enjoyable – sharp, simple, refined, almost minimalistic, still sweet but silky and mannered. Not bad overall, besides Desire Red (slight similarity and only initial, though) it also reminds me of some aspects of Jil Sander Background, specifically the medicinal-balsamic side which I find almost identical here, just less loud. Tacky sweet-Oriental opening, nice spicy-woody drydown; not bad overall, but nothing particularly recommended either for me.

6-6,5/10

Fruit Bomb
Having noticed the Joop brand several times and read numerous positive feedbacks about Joop!Go, I was quite curious about the relatively young offshoot from Joop for men.

The fragrance notes promise a pleasantly sweet scent.
Upon spraying, you immediately feel as if you've dipped your head into a bowl of fruit salad. You can distinctly smell the citrus note, but it's not overpoweringly citrusy; instead, it's paired with a hint of orange. Those who don't like fruity citrus won't be bothered by it for too long. After about 10 minutes, the perfume reveals itself in a completely new guise. As promised, the sweetness now makes its entrance. I can smell a bit of sandalwood, which doesn't push itself too much to the forefront, as the vetiver and lavender maintain a fundamental freshness. The cinnamon note gains more and more presence and eventually brings out the big guns. A pleasant sweetness spreads in the pores of the skin and doesn't want to relinquish this dominance without a fight. All in all, a very nice scent that I can still faintly perceive the next evening. So, anyone willing to let their skin be graced by a pleasantly sweet-fruity fragrance and who doesn't want a sissy vanilla bomb like Le Male for their beloved will be very well served with Wolfgang Joop.

P.S.
I take no responsibility for my underdeveloped sense of smell.

One Thousand
Actually, I only know this from movies, where two films come out in quick succession or even simultaneously on the same theme. For example, Deep Impact and Armageddon back then, White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen as the latest double example. And there are many more examples, and there’s surely a system behind it. With perfumes, one usually sets a trend and many imitators follow closely behind. In this case, however, the two quite similar perfumes One Million and Wolfgang Joop were released in the same year, where I can't really accuse one of copying or having any intention. Nevertheless, only One Million was successful, while WJ more or less gathered dust on the shelves. Let’s see if we can get to the bottom of this mystery.

Anyone who knows One Million will be struck by the many similarities. WJ is just tamer, more masculine, uncontroversial, solid, fruitier, and less leathery. A One Million for everyday use. It starts off fruity and ordinary but then evolves into a better form - through lavender, spices, cinnamon, patchouli, orange, and a bit of leather. One could say it’s a fruity oriental. Somewhere in no man's land between artistic ambition and wannabe blockbuster. A very subdued bubblegum vibe, with plenty of synthetics and scratchiness as well.

Bottle: boring and simplistic, but at least quite heavy.
Sillage: quiet, although the fragrance type is born for something more intense.
Longevity: time and again it holds back so much that you think it’s gone, only to push forward again. It’s only completely gone after 9 hours and therefore narrowly misses the magical double-digit mark.

A nice scent for all those who actually like One Million for its fragrance but find it too flashy and clumsy. And worlds better than Freigeist. However, it just barely doesn’t measure up to the best scents that are marketed solely under Joop, like Homme or Jump. I also find it silly that there’s a distinction made there.

"Lagerfeld classic" for younger men...
...this is how I perceive "Wolfgang Joop." It goes in a comparably oriental-sweet direction, but without carrying the overwhelming spice burden that makes the Lagerfeld scent unbearable for me as a 30-year-old.

This is more of a "Light" version of it, a modernized concept with more understatement, if you will. I perceive a lot of patchouli, a hint of cinnamon, and lightly graceful woods, making it a suitable scent from autumn to spring.

Of the Joop! fragrances from the last decade, this is the only one that I find truly worthy of consideration for men; I cannot tolerate the others (Go! Jump!....) due to their insignificance, artificiality, or lack of balance.

Aftershave Balm - Fragrance for the Whole Day
My 90% rating refers to the After Shave Balm, not the EDT.
I had also bought the EDT back then, and pretty soon I set it aside as a bad purchase.
The orange, sweet scent quickly gave me a vague headache.
It was not suitable for work - and too heavy for sports.
However, at some point, I tested the Aftershave Balm and immediately fell in love with this scent.
Just yesterday, I applied it again after shaving - just a little over a scentless Nivea Balm. Still, it’s a fragrance that lasts all day
and makes you keep brushing your face to smell it more intensely.
To my nose, it smells very strongly of tobacco and leather - maybe also a bit like tea.
Of course, similar to the EDT - but much more balanced and interesting.
I could imagine that many who use the Tobacco Balm would love the WJ Balm -
yes, would love it because it is now only available at a 50% reduced clearance price.

Not Joop! but Wolle!
Sweet fruity spice in a classy way.
Not a loudmouth but a refined companion with charm.

That one was really, really good.
It's a mystery to me why some fragrances are discontinued.
Very modern and truly eye-catching.
Fruity-sweet.

Subtle Western notes, but in an exciting potpourri. Delicious, but unfortunately discontinued way too quickly.

One Million Light/Zero or "1 Million for adults"!!! Just right for the slightly "older" ones who find the gold bar too overpowering!!! ;-)

A very pleasant, subtly cinnamon sweetness is joined by a magnificent, dry wood accord. Lasting, soothing memories.
