Sporty summer in a bottle that will catch you a bit off guard!
I feel like I'm on an Italian seaside surrounded by ancient pines sitting close to an old wooden pier I can smell the wood drying out under the late afternoon sun. The sea breeze brings in a tangy note like seaweed drying out.

ZARA Sport is not a novelty, yet this revisitation was released in 2018, and I've no clue whether it is identical to the previous releases. I quite enjoy this one, though it catches me a bit off guard! It opens up like usual clean citrus and aquatic. A bit of citrus, a bit of those oceanic notes you can probably smell just from the term "aquatic," and a spotless overall impression. After a few minutes, though, the citrus fades just a bit, and the daring heart comes out. What I get from this is a very breezy, well-composed fresh summer citrus with some interesting sides. It is not an aquatic per se, but it does have a new vibe that is coming from the marine note, I think. As per the notes mentioned on the official site, it has a high citrus top, which lasts well into the base, a slightly salty fresh vibe, and resting on an ambergris base. There is a lot to like here. It may allude to a soft marine breeze, but without the sharp saltiness that would accompany an oceanic scent. I guess when it comes to originality, there are quite a few fragrances which have a comparable summer vibe. However, I do like this for what it does. Although I don't get a distinct citrus vibe out of the opening, it's the ambergris that fastens the dry down to make it a bit heavier than the other summer options. It isn't indeed a saltwater marine smell, as Nautica, for instance, but rather the Mediterranean-inspired elements that connect to the sea.

To begin with, the opening of Sport is mainly a zesty affair. The citrus fruits stand out at the start, which reminds me of pieces of other sporty fragrances. Now, it isn't precisely similar to any of them, just vague reminders from these opening notes. I rather enjoy the opening that is citrus blended with saltier notes which replicate the air of the sea, kind of like Acqua di Gio, yet not alike or an uncanny clone of it. It is fresh, bright, with a clean and quasi-soapy aroma to it.

Then, what I get from this scent, beyond the citrus opening, is a slightly spicy and woody undertone with that prominent saltiness that hangs in the air. The touch of pleasant sour and soft musk, plenty of ambergris, a little bit of blue cedar, and a tad of sandalwood are the notes which stand out the most to my nose. The citrus stays throughout, but it does weaken as time moves on, and these other elements begin to shine. The ambergris in there is outstanding, it has a considerable presence in this scent, and it workes so well with the additional notes. This base blend can give off a slightly sweet, clean, and a tad of a soapy and creamy quality, though it does not endanger the overall result.

Projection wise, Sport is honestly pretty moderate. It isn't a tremendous hitter in that regard, decent but nothing to write home about, either. Longevity, I got a little more than 4 hours out of Sport. Of course, this ain't no disappointing for a sporty cologne. I'd unquestionably say that Sport is warm weather or summertime scent and utterly captures that kind of atmosphere. It seems like more of a casual and office daytime wear than anything else. Despite this not so brilliant performance, I would still recommend people to at least try it out at a local ZARA store... It won't be a heavy hitter in your wardrobe, but it will undoubtedly have its place.
