Can Anybody Find Me Somewoody To Love?
What a bizarre name, Somewoody, something between some woody and somebody. When I tried the new WOODS collection dedicated to woods, of course, I never expected to find the amber and musky accords that I will describe to you shortly. Unlike WO/02 Wood Street, pompous with peppery wood, or "WO/03 Café Et Cèdre | Zara", rich in powdery wood. I admit, WO/01 Somewoody surprised me because I was expecting something very woody, and varied, with floral and vanilla touches. On the packaging, ZARA emphasizes the notes of lavender, cedar wood and dry amber. And yet behind this perfume lies something tender and magnetic. You can't imagine its aroma until you try it.

Somewoody comes out with a sweet, slightly fruity, spicy, woody and aromatic accord. Yes, there’s a spicy, powdery, and slightly sweet touch from the cinnamon, but mostly I get the aromatic lavender along with a sort of ephemeral apple crunch. Lavender flavouring is not the chemical aroma we find in fabric softener or laundry soap but is more herbaceous and natural and blends gracefully with the spicy cinnamon. It’s fresh and uplifting in the initial phase, but don’t let the fresh entry fool you as it becomes floral, musky and woody.

Moving forward, the heart reveals a plethora of musky and powdery flowers, and the white flowers mentioned have too much in common with the lily of the valley. To my nose, Somewoody appears as a heavy, really heavy musky cologne, with animal and laundry musk, and a fine rosy, dusty dew. For me, even though lavender is listed as the top note, I can smell it in the background throughout the entire wearing experience. And powdery, as if a hint of iris, orris, or violet leaf was secretly mixed into the formula. Floral, powdery musk is a well-known accord available in many fragrances; here however it is accompanied by dry woods and salty amber which make it a little special. It reminds me of some other musky and floral scents in my collection, but they escape me at the moment.

The oud is tame, almost non-existent, not animalistic or barnyard, and nothing that leads to the lands of the Middle East. I’m used to the smoky, medicinal oud I can get from the ZARA Oud series, for example, and there’s no clear hint of that here. The same goes for vanilla, more of a powdery support than a notable gourmand note. I think there’s more on the cedar side, with its characteristic pencil shavings nuance than the opulent, medicinal oud resin. Musky and musty, like the scent of a musty old paper book. The base is centred on amber, earthy, musky and powdery woody nuances. I can mostly pick up the salty ambroxan and clean white musk.

Somewoody is easy to wear, can be used both day and night and works best in autumn, winter and spring. The fragrance stays for quite some time and projects moderately. Surprisingly, thanks to ambroxan, the perfume lasts longer and stains clothes. The next day, it was still on the cuff of my jacket. Suitable for both men and women. I find it quite intimate, and also pleasant to wear at home, for the office. It’s not so overbearing and annoying.

I base my experience on a test I did on the paper strip and my skin in early December 2023.

ZARA Alexandria II, AKA WO/01 Somewoody.

2023 DC, Somewhere in Chemical Laboratory in Spain….
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ZARA: You have, it appears, a fine nose, young man. But...

Dupe: My nose knows all the smells in the world. It's the best nose in Spain…

ZARA: No! No! No! Basta! You don't interrupt me when I'm speaking. You're both impertinent and insolent! Even I don't know every scent. I, of course, known for some time the ingredients of "Alexandria II".
Could you tell me the exact formula of "Alexandria II".? "Best nose in Spain".

Dupe: Master Zara, I don't, I don't know what a formula is. But I can make " Alexandria II" for you now.

ZARA: You?

Dupe: Yes.

ZARA: Now pay attention! What is your name, anyway?

Dupe: Dupe Xerjoff.

ZARA: Very well, Dupe Jerkoff, you shall have the opportunity now, this very moment, to prove your assertion.

Dupe: How much do you want me to make?

ZARA: How much of... what?

Dupe: How much " Alexandria II " do you want? Shall I fill this flask?

ZARA: No! You shall not! You may fill this one, I must've been insane to listen to your asinine gibberish.

(After few minutes... )

Dupe: Yes, it’s done.

ZARA: Mamamia... This is " Alexandria II ".

Dupe: But it's not a good perfume, master, if you let me again, master, I'll make it more better.

(After few minutes... )

Dupe: It’s done.

ZARA: That's a really good perfume, but how do you call it?

Dupe: There is something, something….woody, Some woody, yes, master, you can call it Somewoody.

ZARA: Now you can make this 1000 tons of Somewoody for me.

Dupe: But, master... 1000 tons will cost a fortune, how can you recoup the costs?

ZARA: well, we're just going to sell the perfume for 17 euros per bottle.

Today arrives Somebody, Bottle is really nice, rounded and feel robust, wood cap is also beautiful made, but atomizer, yes, the atomizer again, is not great.

At first impression, you can almost immediately detect the same DNA profile of Alexandria II, no synthetic smell at all, longevity is very good, and on skin is first hour with very good projection, and if you spray on clothes, it will remain almost 24 hours or longer. For me, it’s more suitable for colder month. This perfume contain a special oriental DNA, more specific, from Thailand, almost same scent like uncooked Thai Jasmin Rice. It’s not a mass pleaser.

And, yes, it’s close to Alexandria II, it’s very very close to Alexandria II, I think most people won’t even to smell the difference between Somewoody and Alexandria II, Of course Alexandria II is more intense, more deeper, more potent, but also much more expensive, but Somewoody is not far from his model. I’m speechless when I smell the first spray, I can hardly believe that Zara can reassembled the DNA of such Niche perfume with almost 95% accuracy, I am really really impressed. If you like Alexandria II DNA, you should buy it, and you can better buy it now, because he will disappear soon, like all other Zara niche perfume clones.

Zara has proven again this time how good they are at making the excellent perfume!

Alexandria II: 95% Scent Profile, 75% Performance, 20% Price
The title says it all. I got a sample of Alexandria II last year and was completely blown away by the scent profile and the performance, absolutely top shelf frag from a house full of top shelf frags. Xerjoff has so many absolute masterpiece fragrances in their lineup and A2 is probably my favorite, alternating with Naxos depending on the day. The only downside, the price tag: $175 for a 50ml is a hard pill to swallow. I tried the Paris Corner clone called Prodigy (Brown) a few months ago, and while I enjoyed it, I felt it to be severely lacking in several areas. Upon reading reviews for Somewoody, it sounded too good to be true, especially given Zara's consistently inconsistent status within the community. I bought blindly, a practice I rarely engage in these days, and hoped for the best.

Upon initial spray I was a little disappointed, the A2 DNA is certainly present but so is a slightly dirty spicy (cumin?) note, my heart somewhat sank. Much to my delight within a few brief moments, that smell dissipated and I was left with an absolutely stellar recreation of the beloved Alexandria II. The scent profile is nearly identical to my nose, it's somewhat lighter in the lavender up top and and Oud on the bottom, but it's all there! What a delightful surprise!

Longevity is excellent at 10+ hours on skin with 4 sprays, not quite the 20+ hours with 2 sprays of the Xerjoff, but this is less than 20% of the asking price (currently $35 on the official Zara US website)! It easily lasts days on clothing as well. It is certainly lighter than the original, but at this price the performance is more than sufficient. The projection/Sillage is also excellent, I find a 4 foot scent bubble for no less than 4 hours with the same 4 sprays, sitting closer to my body for the following 3 hours before becoming a skin scent for another 4 hours or so.

As for use cases, I would say they mirror the original, I do wear it day or night and I will even wear it in the Spring and cool Summer days because I adore it so much, even though I know many scent aficionados may frown on this practice. I do like layering it with Luna Rossa Sport in top, which shares some similarities (lavender, vanilla, amber dominant) albeit much fresher than SW/A2. The original Xerjoff was marketed as Unisex, but I find that Zara made the right choice when the made the decision to market this fragrance towards men. I do think a woman could wear this, but it definitely leans more masculine in my opinion (and I tend to classify most frags as Unisex).

There really are no drawbacks to this fragrance in my opinion, with the exception of it being more cold weather compatible, and Zara availability can be very spotty at times. This is truly a 10/10 fragrance for me, it literally makes buying A2 redundant. I wish all of Zara's creations could achieve the same level of quality as this.

All just Fugazi?
Well, I suppose I'm writing my first review….

About a Zara…
Who would have thought….
Although I’m not completely green behind the ears anymore, I had never been to a Zara until a few days ago (inspired by my gem). I always thought Zara was aimed exclusively at young ladies.

This fragrance leaves me contemplative.
Its similarity is shocking!

One thing is very clear: marketing and presentation seem to be everything!

I paid full retail for its counterpart, which is supposed to contain a selection of the finest 5-year-old vintage ouds….this Zara captures 95% of the DNA and costs under 5% of the original.

Now, looking solely at the “juice” itself, sorry current hype niche but the ratios are just absolutely off here!
It’s frightening, honestly!
Even in terms of color, one egg looks like the other, the Zara comes with 78% while the Alex has 71% vol Alc.

Of course, quality differences are noticeable, sure it is weaker, but in a completely opposite ratio! It achieves 80% of a current Alex2 including the H/S and costs 4%…that just doesn’t add up. Where's the catch? Are the cheapies getting better or the niche getting worse?

Honestly, this fragrance makes me think. When I bought the Alex 2, I dreamed of the Thai rainforest, the oud plantations, large, distant spice bazaars and reveled in the exquisite, precious ingredients.
Now I stand here under artificial light in Zara, holding a 100ml bottle for €17.99 in my hands and have 95% of the same olfactory experience.

About the scent:
It starts off strongly alcoholic, but this dissipates within 3-4 seconds. And then there it is, Alexandria 2.
Clearly not in its full glory and depth, more like a good photo.

Sometimes you read about dupes/originals where the dupe is compared to a washed-out image of the original. I would deny that here; you’re not there live, but you’re watching a 4k video recording via VR.
They differ most significantly in performance. While the Alex is very loud and especially long-lasting, the Zara is “only” blessed with a normally average longevity.
The woodiness is a nano trace less deep/aged, the rose/cinnamon are slightly more subtle, hardly noticeable, but in direct comparison, it stands out. Really just minimal.
It should be noted here that I am comparing a bottle that I just opened today, produced 1.5 months ago, with one that was opened 11 months ago, which was produced over 1.5 years ago.
Otherwise, Alexandria 2, of course.
For me, it’s a cross between Le Male and Oud Wood with a hint of oud.

The bottle and the box are nice for the price. I like the box, the glass makes a good impression, and I like the wooden cap. However, the sprayer on my bottle isn’t that great.

What can I say, Zara knows how to do it.
It has become a real addiction.
Today was my 4th fragrance and overall 5th bottle from Zara, within a week.
Sometimes I already have the original (Alex2) or don’t even like the scent that much (Angels Share).
I sometimes buy these things senselessly because I find them so outrageously well-made for the price.
The next candidate will be Sand Desert at Sunset.
I have the original as a decant, don’t particularly like it, have Khamrah as a bottle, and will probably buy the Zara as well. Simply because they have such an outrageously good price-performance ratio. I will likely always reach for other fragrances in upcoming situations, as my collection already covers these areas. In the end, it’s (partially, with the dupe stories/things I already have) thus pre-programmed wasted money, so caution!
But they are fun, quite amusing, and somewhere collecting and discovering, from top to bottom, is also part of our beautiful pastime.

If there had been something like this during my school training, how happy I would have been…

Edit: I’m raising my rating regarding longevity from 8 to 9.
After 9 hours and multiple hand washes, the scent is just in its very last breaths but still not completely gone….from a freshly opened bottle, produced 1.5 months ago. Incredible.

Edit: After just over 9 hours, it has now “burned out,” what remains is a hint of musk.

What's going on with Zara? :o
I am a big fan of Xerjoff, especially of Alexandria II and the other Oud Stars, but I find it impressive what Zara has delivered here.

Of course, Somewoody doesn't quite reach the level of Alexandria, but it is, especially in the sillage, damn close.
Somewoody is a bit lighter for me and generally lacks the depth of Alex2.
In the opening, it comes across as somewhat synthetic/alcoholic, but as it develops, it becomes really nice and woody, floral, sweet with a very slight medicinal note.
The closer you get to the drydown, the softer and creamier it becomes.
Longevity and sillage are of course not as strong as the original, but for the price, it's totally acceptable.

I am not a fan of dupes (especially not those that use exactly the same oils as Xerjoff, Roja, PdM, etc. for 1/100th of the price :D :D), and I prefer to go for the original, but this fragrance is really worth recommending, especially for people who don't want to spend too much money on perfumes but still want to smell good/special.
The price/performance ratio is absolutely fantastic!!
The bottle is also more than decent for the price.

Definitely worth a try :)

Quite realistic cedar note (if you own cedar shoe-trees) warmed by vanilla, amber, flowers and cinnamon dancing in the background. Bueno!

It's a copy of Beyond the Wall, which in turn is inspired by Alexandria II. The scent is pleasant, the "fluffy" drydown is quite good.

The opening is with musk, cinnamon and white flowers. Then it becomes woody and somewhat creamy. Very pleasant!

Scary close to Alex 2 - the longevity a bit less, however the projection in the first hour is strong. No synthetic smell whatsoever

I smelled this without knowing that it was said to be similar to Alexandria II. It didn't seem like a big deal to me. Woody like many other.

I love the dry down, it is sweet, vanilly and smoky. Top notes are woody and may be a bit harsh for some people but just wait for a bit.
