Rare powder

One of the first things to strike me about this fragrance is how dry it is. It first hits like breathing some makeup powder thrown in the air. But then it transforms and sweetens slightly so that it’s not makeup powder but dried iris petals ground into powder and mixed with uncooked rice. There’s a definite vegetal undercurrent that makes this feel both like a makeup vanity, the kitchen pantry, and the outdoors all at once. I didn’t detect the vetiver at first but now I think it’s definitely the source of the outdoorsy element.

The overall effect is very clean and calm but still unique. It’s not your typical clean girl, your skin but better perfume because it feels somewhat vintage but in an entirely complimentary way. A shame it’s discontinued because it’s really a stunner for spring.

the slightly different iris scent

One might think that someone who releases so many fragrances in such a short time and then takes them off the market only produces bad ones. But that's not the case. Some Zara fragrances are truly fantastic.
Sure, not everything that glitters is gold, and the same goes for Zara fragrances, but I have really encountered many very good ones, many of them by Jo Malone.
Such is "Silent Flowers - Romance d'Iris | Zara".

Iris is often not so easy and pleasant, but that's different here in Romance d'Iris.
What a wonderful, green-powdery scent. Light, cool, airy, cheerful with a truly pleasant violet-lily-iris arrangement. Like a cocoon, a gentle, milky (rice) accord and zesty lemon first wrap around you, then the powdery-green iris joins in right away.
Violet and lily don't take long to appear either.
Everything harmonizes wonderfully together. Musk, heliotrope, and vetiver bring calm to the fragrance and soften the flowers a bit. Over time, it even becomes somewhat creamy.

If I had to make a visual comparison for Romance d'Iris, it would be a white, light, short, playful summer dress with lots of small delicate embroidered flowers and little green leaves. A bit retro, but not stuffy.

With this fragrance, I cannot complain about the longevity and sillage. The violet scent lingers long and flattering around you without becoming annoying. However, those expecting a very sweet fragrance will be disappointed. It is even occasionally bitter and cool. Nevertheless, I find it fits very well with the white summer dress. Unlike typical iris scents, Romance d'Iris is in no way suffocating or dusty. The powdery note plays more of a supporting role here.
Still, I would recommend a test to any powder lover.
