Feel Without Prejudice
I just got my hands on a brand-fresh bottle of Vibrant Leather Winter and can't wait to try it. I tested it in the store, and it smells fantastic. However, when I unwrap my new fragrance and spray it, I can barely recognize it. It smells less strong and heady than in the store. I'd like to know if someone mixed up the testers, and I bought another perfume. But no, I am sure I sprayed the blue emerald bottle, the same as the box and bottle I purchased. I would like to shed some light on Vibrant Leather Winter, which, to my nose, is decidedly aromatic and balmy yet is an appealing mix of leathery and woody tones punctuated by a fruity nuance. The central perfumer claims to have made the original Vibrant Leather (2018) Eau de Parfum more prosperous and more welcoming, but I struggle to recognize the DNA, at least in the short and medium terms. This version creates a bold but not overpowering aroma, but the spicy cinnamon note and the fruitier plum note escape my nose. Instead, the fragrance contains a balsamic note that lasts throughout the perfume. It is a resinous, camphoraceous, mentholated note, always present underneath.
Vibrant Leather Winter unfurls with a blast of creamy bergamot, sparkling and tangy, yet not at all too citrusy and not reminiscent of classic barbershop cologne. At the same time, a bite of lemon adds life to the opening. What? Wait, perhaps I was too hasty… after a few days of rest and reapplication, I seemed to catch the aroma of the plum, sweet, acidic, and sour with a juicy nuance, more like that of the dried prunes. Meantime, some aromatic herbs close to thyme and Majorana show, and fresh lavender blends with the creamy and zesty citrus fruits, creating a soothing and relaxing feeling. The initial stage is balmy and fruity, yet not sweet but in a sourer way.
With my big surprise, a bouquet of dewy little white blossoms oozes from the initial blast. Lily of the Valley bitterness intertwines with a resinous aroma, like the smell of pine needles. The fresh, resinous, floral aromas superimpose a camphoraceous nuance. Velvety and leafy pelargonium complete the middle stage. The camphor nuance is noticeable. However, it is not akin to mothball but rather similar to incense resin. Now, I can even get a smidgen of sour pineapple, a hidden note, and a trademark for the Vibrant Leather line. The middle stage turns herbaceous, a bit floral with a resinous slant.
Iso E Super peeks out towards the dry-down, contributing its woodiness and amber nuances. The ultimate phase reveals notes of earthy patchouli, modern, refined, and clean, which blend with spicy vanilla and powdery tonka. The vanilla is not too strong or sweet and does not show a gourmand facet, and what remains of the perfume still maintains its aromatic and balsamic accords. The essence even releases a sort of light leatheriness, from birch, I guess, not virile, not raw, or too demanding.
The scent is best suited for the cooler months of fall and winter but looks good in spring. It's a day-to-night fragrance that works equally well in a leisure or work setting. However, longevity isn't its strong point, making it less suitable for long days unless you keep it with you and reapply. But it leaves an enormous trail, so much so that people in a mall stopped me to ask what I was wearing, leaving a trail that filled the aisles. I never would have imagined it would have such a broad projection.
I'm writing my thoughts based on a bottle I have owned since October 2024.
