The Courtly Romance of Lena the Cow
In William Faulkner's Snopes Trilogy, there is a character who falls in love with a cow, and spends happy days weaving daisy chains for his bovine love to wear. It is a very courtly kind of romance, and this fragrance immediately brought it to mind.
Cow strikes me as a romantic fragrance, not "romantic" in the roses and champagne sense, but romantic in a more
classical way- something unaffected, real and natural, outdoor-fresh but with a bit of warmth too.
The apple and sage opening is fantastic. It gives a sense of long summer days, walks in the country. It's bright and fresh, aromatic and juicy with just a bit of sweetness.
The heart still has a green, aromatic quality, and it blends beautifully with the milky and floral notes, which I thibk were especially well-selected. The heliotrope and milk compliment each other so well, and the rest of the blend has a fresh quality which is so pretty, yet still unisex.
The drydown is delightfully resinous and woody but is a much more intimate scent than I was hoping. It's a very nice, subtle scent bubble though.
Cow is definitely unisex, IMO; the longevity is on the long side of average, but the fragrance performs much more like a EdP than an extrait on me..
I do like this scent a lot. Like all the Zoology scens I've tried, it's very evocatìve of it's subject. I can easily imagine Lena the Cow relaxing in a field on a pretty spring or summer day, while her knight gallant sings love songs, makes her a crown of flowers and feeds her apples.
Yes, I am the weirdo determined to name the Zoology animals. It's a compulsion. Don't judge me.
