Sweet strawberry shampoo

To my nose, this is one of those relatively expensive perfumes that smell like a body mist. If I would have tested this blindly, I would have guessed it was by Bath & Body Works or some random drugstore brand.
Which does not mean it's unpleasant, just not really what I'm looking for. The notes make it look more complex and interesting than it really is.

So, what exactly does it smell like? As the name suggests, it's mainly a strawberry scent. Sweet, fresh and fruity with a slightly articial touch. The strawberry note is similar to the one in Burberry Her, but the overall impression is different.
Strawberry Letter is not as dense and heavy, it's more of a shampoo-like scent to me. Beneath the sweetness, it has a clean, almost watery base. The plum note might be the second most dominant besides the strawberry, and it reminds me of that in Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy or VS Pure Seduction - juicy, but too clean to be edible.
I don't smell any of the base notes at all, neither amber nor tonka or woods. I'm surprised there is no white musk listed instead.

As a whole, this scent profile always feels very American to me - I can't really explain it, but European made fruity scents are different. Maybe they try to be more natural and use less of those soapy, musky base notes that make me think of shampoo and bubble bath?

This is a fun scent for those who enjoy fruity fragrances even if they come across a little artificial. It's not a great masterpiece though, and I wouldn't chose it for myself.

Pretty and Playful

This one gets a lot of hate in the Fragrantica community and I just don't know why. It's sweet, fruity, playful, sexy yet innocent at the same time. Reminds me of a strawberry flavored lollipop or candy. Despite it being sweet it is not juvenile or cloying. The bottle is basic, but less is more sometimes and I think its an adorable design!

Addictive deep strawberry

Everytime I go on TikTok, there seems to be so much hype around this fragrance that I thought I wasn't about to fall for. I adore strawberry fragrances, however, most of them are not strawberry enough for me and lean more into generally fruity or floral. In Phlur Strawberry Letter, the strawberry is perfectly showcased and framed by warm base notes. The strawberry note, which is the most important, doesn't get lost or turn generic at all. It's fruity, warm, and addictive; when I spray it on, I can't stop sniffing myself.

Strawberry fragrances can often come off as immature, but Strawberry Letter is sophisticated. It reminds me of Burberry Her Elixir, but richer and more obviously strawberry. It's also less expensive if you're looking for an alternative. It also vaguely reminds me of The Body Shop's Strawberry, but more complex. I think this is a perfect strawberry scent.

strawberry simulation

High gloss strawberry candy. Juicy sweet plastic, just starting to melt. Dead ringer for the strawberry syrup in a Rita’s Italian ice. Artificial, but not offensive. No strawberries were harmed in the making of this fragrance. I love a good freaky plastic scent and gummy gourmands, but this didn’t really do anything for me. Just a “huh yeah, that smells kinda like strawberry.” As with Mood Ring, it’s the kind of cutie-fruity scent I’d be tickled to get out of flavoured chapstick or a scratch-n-sniff picture book, but nothing I’d yearn to smell like.

Mental Snapshot: After a long day of manning the shaved ice stand, you try to wash all the syrupy residue off. This is what your hands smell like. Don't lick them.

Sickly sweet, plastic strawberry and couramin mess!

I was a little bit worried about even wearing this. I tested it on paper first and it smelt like my 80s Strawberry Shortcake Doll on steroids, sickly sweet and artificial also like biting into a Strawberry Chapstick; super sweet, artificial, medicinal - like the whiff of strawberry scented marker.

So I approached with caution when testing on my skin. ONE SPRAY on the back of my hand. Quelle surprise!!… a beautiful fresh juicy strawberry, bright and vibrant, a little shampooy. Some fresh apple notes. Reminiscent of a less sweet Body Shop Strawberry Body Butter.

About 15mins later it’s starts to turn into a disaster again for me. The artificial, plastic and ethanol strawberry has made an unwelcome return, this time accompanied with a sickly sweet plum syrup and tonka bean! I don’t dislike tonka bean, it’s used wonderfully in many perfumes I like to give a warm, sensual base. But in Strawberry Letter it smells like Phlur have liberally poured in the couramin with a shaky hand.

It’s all just too much for me. I try my best to grin and bear it, for the sake of an honest review, hoping it will dry down into something, if not enjoyable, at least acceptable. But two hours in and that one spray on the back of my hand is emanating a toxic cloud of sickly sweet artificial plastic and ethanol strawberry, plum syrup and a bucket of couramin. The headache and nausea is too much. I admit defeat. The hand has been scrubbed… several times!

Now I need to say that I will acknowledge that I have a sensitive nose. We’re all so different, our likes/dislikes, and I definitely struggle with heady and/or cloying perfumes. They can even induce a migraine for me. But I’m sure there is someone, somewhere that will enjoy this. For sweet, fruity and vanilla gourmand lovers, this might be right up your street. But it’s safe to say, this is definitely not for me.
