Finally, it's here and has appeared right after Poste Canada's month-long strike. I did get to spray it in a Sephora during that month, but I was waiting for it to arrive before posting a complete review.
I was not a fan of
Yum Pistachio Gelato | 33 when it came out as I found the marketing was not a reflection of the scent. As for this one, I'd say the marketing this time is pretty spot-on. Somewhere along the lines of a tagada strawberry candy, a strawberry milkshake with whipped cream and pink marshmallows, and a strawberry-flavored cotton candy lies this fragrance. It has very similar sugary sweet vibes (cotton candy), just like
Boardwalk Delight Eau de Parfum. Instead of apples and raspberries, you get apples with this one. If you like Skylar's fragrance, you'll certainly love this one. This is what I was hoping
Her Eau de Parfum or
Her Elixir de Parfum would smell on me.
I get a very soft and sweet fruity strawberry. It's a little bit synthetic, but nothing too jarring or icky. There are some florals in the background, but they never steal the spotlight. I smell a very nice, gourmand-leaning creaminess that accompanies very well the strawberry note (think of strawberry Creme Savers hard candies). It's got that mouthwatering appeal. Never really got any coconut, although I think it works it magic with adding creaminess and a body lotion vibe I could sometimes detect at the edge of the scent. The drydown is pretty soothing and calming. I start getting some comforting warmth (the kind only gourmand perfumes can summon), a bit of raspberry tartness, some sugary sweetness from the vanilla / sugar combo and some powderiness from the tonka beans.
Is it a unique scent? Certainly not. Is it a very lovely scent? Yes, of course. My skin chemistry also usually tends to fit well with Kayali's fragrances so I never got any synthetic sharp notes or an overly floral / coconut note on my skin compared to what I've read. This is a very nice gourmand addition that fits right in with Mona's gourmand fragrances. I don't know if I'll be adding a full bottle to my collection (just like with Boardwalk Delight, I'm on the fence about smelling like cotton candy), but I'm happy I got a 10ml miniature bottle as I love their bottles so much!
