Good for true gourmand lovers
I want to start off by saying that this bottle is fabulous and the scent itself is really nice, but it’s definitely not something I could see myself wearing often and it’s not really my style. I am in no way a “gourmand girlie”.

Cirque is a sweet, slightly milky, vanillic-caramel scent with a noticeable salty popcorn note. The florals peek through here and there throughout the wear, but they aren’t expressed very strongly in the overall scent. It has a very youthful carefree vibe, and does actually remind me of a Carnival or Circus - rambunctious and saccharine. It’s fun but for me, it’s not a practical scent for regular wear. It’s a bit too sweet for my personal taste, but I can appreciate the popcorn here as popcorn isn’t a note I come across much. It kind of reminds me of the caramel-popcorn combo in Lush Let The Good Times Roll body spray (but obviously super refined and niche-ified).

Now, I won’t tell you whether or not it’s worth its price, but i will say the performance was moderate for me. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I was expecting it to be a monster based on its level of sweetness. It’s pleasantly airy and smooth. Definitely worth at least a try.

Sweet and savory with a candle-like plastic / synthetic undertone
I decided to overcome my wariness about ordering from Facebook fragrance groups just so I could try this fragrance. Cirque du Soleil originates from Quebec (which is from where I'm from), so there's no way I was going to ignore this fragrance (and have you seen the exquisite bottle?). As a gourmand lover, I had high hopes for this one.

Unfortunately, it's a definite no for me. I'm super grateful I got to try it and avoided blind-buying it. I tested it on a paper strip before applying it to my skin and something smelled off. It's only when I finally got around to testing it on my skin that I realized what the problem was: it has a distinctive note of synthetic candle from Winners/Homesense. That plasticky, sharp, icky synthetic note (I'm sure you know what I'm talking about). Red apples and bergamot barely have the time to shine before cotton candy arrives with a warm and sugary accord. At about the same time, the synthetic and plasticky note creeps up and overshadows everything. The problem is that it remains, even as the perfume shifts over time. Keeping that in mind, as it moves forward I smell this buttery, salty and savory popcorn note with a hint of sweetness. Flowers are subdued, barely floral, but instead powdery. Hours later, the drydown becomes a creamy vanilla with musks, reminiscent of "Nemat's Vanilla Musk | Nemat International" where the candle-like plastic note has finally disappeared.

In life, I'm not a fan of mixing salt with sugar; savory foods with sweet foods. I have a feeling it also translates to perfumes. The buttery popcorn note is delicious, but the undertone of sweetness smells a bit wrong to me. The main culprit (and reason) I won't be buying a full bottle of this is the candle-like synthetic note that pervades the whole perfume. I'd also like to add that I don't have any meaningful souvenirs or memories of going to the circus, so I do not have that nostalgic feeling I've heard people speak about when reviewing this perfume. It does smell like what going to a circus would probably smells like which is objectively an amazing thing, but to me there's no olfactive memories which is maybe why my appreciation of this fragrance is lower. For the gourmand lovers who have memories of going to the circus or those whose skin chemistry avoids the synthetic pitfall, this could be a great addition to your collection. Unfortunately, for me, it's a pass.

I'm pleased, but not amazed
Opens like fruity pebbles, or maybe lucky charms. I can smell the flaky, thin crisp of sugar that coats sweet box cereal. As it evolves, I sense a more baccarat-like cloud of metallic cotton candy and caramelized hazelnuts. In the middle it's deliciously sweet, crispy, nutty, and edible. The cereal disappears completely and you're left sitting in a velvet theater seat, munching cracker jack corn. After several hours, it's mostly sandalwood, but a dry, papery, whispery sandalwood with little sweetness. On skin it was undetectable after 6 hours.

It didn't wow me, but I do find it pretty. I think most people will really like it. It'll go on my wish list, but mostly because I love Cirque du Soleil and the bottle is stunning.

Smelling Like a Circus Clown
This is a super fun gourmand. It absolutely punches you with a buttery saccharine caramel popcorn and cotton candy in the first few hours of wear. It's rich and fluffy and warm. There's not much of a juicy apple type scent, but more of a powdery apple skin. After about 6 hours of wear it melts into a gorgeous vanilla skin musk. Sweet but understated, and super addicting.

I Don't Get It
I was under the impression before sampling that this would be one of the most fun, playful, borderline unwearable fragrances, reminiscent of the circus. It's definitely sweet, and I get the cotton candy, maybe buttery popcorn if I breathe in deeply, but this scent is so much softer than I imagined. Don't get me wrong, I like the smell of this, but it reminds me much more of opening a box of honey flavored cereal, maybe waiting in line at the state fair if anything. I just don't really get the Magic I expected- I suspect I would have perceived this as a lovely musky vanilla if I didn't know the notes. The scent is very subtle too! Fortunately I think this fragrance is extremely wearable, could be worn in any season equally, and I am in love with the design of the bottle.

Caramel apples. Soft pretzels. Hot fresh buttered popcorn. All with a warm vanilla woody base.

Some popcorn in the first 3 seconds and then it’s slightly citrusy caramel vanilla scent. Extremely similar to Khadlaj Empite Victor.

Everything one would want to eat at the circus, state, or county fair, in a good way: Cotton Candy, Popcorn, Apple, and Vanilla.

Was hoping for something more adventurous and avant garde. Instead, it's just a simple vanilla gourmand with no surprises.

It’s a unique sweet and creamy caramel scent for the first 30 mins, but it quickly dries down very powdery and looses its uniqueness.

Initial burst of sour candy apple, when it dries down you really get wafts of cotton candy and occasional butter popcorn, not my thing, but well done

Sweet and savory with a candle-like, plastic synthetic note that pervades the entire perfume. Could've been a great gourmand scent...
