ALL VOODOO, NO LILY
Voodoo Lily smells like a crystal shop owner with a fun name like "Mystica Moonshadow" or "Seraphina Blackstone".

It's a spicy, woody floral that feels like a spell in a bottle— complex and natural. It smells like an old wooden box filled with incense and dried roses, with prominent peppery cedar and sandalwood adding warmth and depth.

A subtle touch of tart, earthy blackcurrant weaves through the fragrance, bringing a tangy brightness that contrasts beautifully with the dry woods and florals. The oud is clean and incense-like, while frankincense enhances the composition with a layer of mystery. The rose note takes center stage over the lily, creating a moody, dark floral bouquet. It reminds me of Rose 31 by Le Labo, but with a drier profile, with an almost tactile texture.

A sensual scent for those who like their perfumes with a touch of magic — and no need for pin-pricked dolls.

Signature Worthy
Heretic Parfum’s Voodoo Lily is truly great. Originally made as a special edition seasonal fragrance, it has made its way to Heretic’s core line of fragrances produced all year, and for good reason.

Voodoo Lily opens with a combination of florals to include rose and a rather unique lily note. This is accompanied by juicy black currant to give it a really cool dark citrus note and some pepper to spice it up. The heart of the fragrance is wear it really shines. This is where the base notes of patchouli, oud, and frankincense start to blend with the floral and citrus notes. It’s honestly intoxicating. Later in the fragrance’s life, it is very much a smoky incense and patchouli scent with just a tiny whisper of the florals. The final dry down smell reminds me of a couple of the voodoo shops that I visited while in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Burning incense, old wood, patchouli, and dried dead flower petals. It’s haunting in a very beautiful way.

Despite many of the reviews of this fragrance saying that it doesn’t last long, I actually found it to be quite the opposite. It projected moderately for a good 4 to 5 hours on my skin. After working a 12 hour shift, it was more faint but I could still smell it on my forearms without having to search hard for it. As a matter of fact, after my shower at the end of the day I could STILL smell it on my arms after scrubbing them with a good amount of soap. So please cast your worries aside about longevity.

This was the first experience I’ve ever had with a fragrance where I thought to myself, “Wow, I wouldn’t mind smelling like this all the time.” It was an easy decision to grab a full bottle. Heretic fragrances aren’t inexpensive budget fragrances, but this one is definitely worth the price. It’s actually made me want to pair down my collection.

romantic florals
Sweet, slightly bubblegummy florals, with more rose than there is lily surprisingly. There’s soft warm and smoky woods, a touch of subtle spice, and some sweetly earthy patchouli to ground it. I thought I’d get more shrunken head-shop from this but it’s more so a romantically gothic floral more than anything.

A Bewitching Floral
A surprising win for me, who typically detests these florals. This is impeccably spiced, the sandalwood is SO present in the dry down but it isn't an overtly wood fragrance. The incense, juniper and black currant combine into something very dark and magical. Most perfumes that advertise themselves as being "witchy" are usually disappointing, but this fits the bill!

Bubblegum at the Mystic Shop
The scent: bubblegummy florals right out of the bottle, backed by a little sweet incense. Those heady notes soften after an hour or two, leaving you with a lily and rose incense that eventually fades into a base of sweetish patchouli and wood.

The vibe: a cheerful pagan shop owner, or maybe your aunt who wears loud kaftans and gives you impromptu tarot card readings.

Projection starts strong but eases to the low end of moderate in the dry down. Longevity is average at around 6 hours. Unisex, but the sweet floral opening makes it lean feminine coded.

Subtle, stays close to the skin. Starts off as almost nothing and slowly builds into a sour lily. Interesting!
