Wonderful Barbershop Aftershave
A very powdery lavender that most barbers still use today. A true classic that you can use daily. It has good face feel and is not drying or moisturizing. Similar to Canoe and Brut but less powdery than Canoe and no real anise note like Brut.

Unless you use a ton it doesn’t last all day. It might project an hour or so.

A very comfortable aftershave.

The Brut's father
Pinaud Clubman is a classic barbershop scent. Probably the quintessential barbershop. Or maybe the ancient barbershop.

Opens with some citruses/green notes (maybe lemons and some flowers). Then joins the notes of geranium and maybe vanilla or coumarin. Dries down to a soft and a little sweet base.

The drydown is really powdery i must say.

Pinaud Clubman was initially made as an aftershave, but it works very well as a fragrance because there isnt much alcohol.

Of course it reminds me of many scents, specially Brut, which is a bit fresher and less powdery.

Citrus Hair Tonic
Now, this isn't actually an Eau de Cologne. It is in fact classed as a "hair tonic" by the company - Pinaud. It is meant to act as a conditioner for hair "light" or "thin" hair, and it gives fragrance to the hair and improves blood circulation when massaged onto the scalp. That being said, it can also technically be used (in theory) as a skin splash, or a very light "body water" or Eau de Cologne. One interesting effect it has is that it can be used as a man's after shave, or skin lotion for the face after shaving the beard. In that respect it works wonders.

As for the fragrance itself, it consists of a very clear and refreshing citrus (mainly orange zest and bergamot) initial blast, with very light herbs (I can't detect anything specific) but maybe also a hint of juniper giving an aromatic freshness.

Does it last long? No. Does it work as an Eau de Cologne? Not really. Is it good for hair? Yes. Other than that don't expect too much from this one. As an Eau de Cologne it fails, but maybe as a hair conditioner it does it's job and gives hair fragrance and body. For the price it's okay. Nothing more.

No Surprises Here
This smells exactly like you think it will: good
This works just as you imagine: well (as aftershave)
This performs precisely like you figure: OK
This lasts as you plan it will: like other aftershaves
It’s good stuff for what it is. Traditional, affordable, masculine, aftershave.
Curious what this smells like? Go into any traditional barbershop. This is safe to buy blind in my opinion due to its low cost, long track record, and renown.

The Barbershop at Home...
Since no one has written anything about this wonderful little water yet, I will now do so to the best of my knowledge and belief - which means: I'll do my very best!

The CM is advertised with the scent of American barbershops. Well, I can't judge that, as I've never been to one. Here's what I've read about its fragrance pyramid:

Top note: Orange, Bergamot
Heart note: Jasmine, Orange Blossom, and Geranium
Base note: Lavender, Musk, and Oakmoss

All of this seems to indicate a Fougere. However, I'm not entirely sure... Maybe a knowledgeable Parfumo can help me out.
How did I come to CM?
When I had my shaving flash again, I was looking for a classic aftershave. It shouldn't be too harsh and not too sweet, and that's how I found the Pinnaud range. And the already mentioned fragrance note "American Barbershop" made me (as surely intended) curious and eager to buy.
So a bottle of this aftershave found its way into my possession (and my old space problem reared its head again - where to put the bottle...).
The trial: After a relaxed shave, I finally used the CM. No scream, no howl... everything suspiciously good. And then the scent. It really does have something of a barber shop... something clean, sweetish.
Not harsh, by no means. It leans more towards the heavy Avon scent from the seventies - and thus for me into the realm of childhood memories "Hair Salon". Indeed, this scent
reminds me of sessions at the hairdresser. However, I was just waiting for my mother, as my mum always cut my hair herself (it looked like it too, but as a child, that doesn't bother you much).

After holding my nose over green jasmine tea, it is clear to me that in the CM, the jasmine scent is the heavyweight, and that's a good thing. I like jasmine. Lavender and oakmoss, on the other hand, are hard for me to pick out, as the jasmine and possibly the orange dominate too much.
One shouldn't expect longevity from it, but that's normal for an aftershave.

For me, the CM is an excellent aftershave with both skin-friendly properties and a rare and pleasant scent that I gladly recommend.

A classic fougere along the line of Dana's Canoe - geranium, lavender, some spices and herbs. Fleeting but enjoyable.

A mossy coumarin dream to fall for.
You have to quickly shake off the fougère-induced grandpa associations and enjoy.

It resembles the even older Dana Canoe, and here too you find the coumarin-fougère note, but with an unharmonious gasoline twist.

Good AS. Cares and disinfects. Mossy-sweet-powdery. Fougere for a tight budget. Performance is okay.
