Masculine and refined...
This was a surprise for me. I originally bought it with the intention to use it solely as an aftershave. However I have now realised it can be used as a type of light, eau de cologne scent.

A very nice and refined mix of coumarin, lavender, spices and of course, vanilla. I love it! A really great mix and I am happy just wearing it casually or formally. It reminds me of the smell of a refined gentleman, maybe a grown up, mature smell, but that adds to it's heritage as a classic fragrance (like Old Spice or the masculine classics used in shaving etc).

I would say this is a great one to use as an aftershave and cologne. The staying power is surprisingly very good. I am impressed. I would recommend it to the gentlemen out there as an example of a classic, elegant and refined smell and accessory to be used after shaving and also for general use. A really great find for me and one which I will be using for some time!

Favorite Vanilla
Pinaud aftershaves are classics. They enjoy a high reputation in the wet shaving community due to their timeless scents and very good value for money.
The Pinaud Classic Vanilla is a relatively subtle and light aftershave.
The bottle is simple, made of plastic, but functional. This aftershave is milder than other Pinauds and ideal for summer. The scent itself is sweet and vanilla-like, fleeting. Ideal for people who like vanilla and when one is looking for an aftershave that doesn't overpower with its scent.

Heja Sverige!
The first ferry to Trelleborg is still an hour away after a calm night on the Baltic Sea. Time for a hot shower and then a thorough shave. So out of the cozy little cabin and with due care, I got to work on the still shadowy reflection in the tiny shower's mirror. I only want to face the heirs of Karl Gustav and the inventors of the world's safest Volvos clean-shaven. However, the travel guide included a very serious note about the rather sparing use of scents, perfumes, and aftershaves. With too strong a scent penetration, Ole, Lasse, Inga, and Lillebror might forget their Nordic calm and send the foul-smelling person from the local, restaurant, or even the dentist's chair packing. Fact: too much of a good thing is absolutely not considered "tres chic" in cool Sweden.

Instead of Austria's most idiosyncratic creation "Alt Innsbruck" taking the top spot in my toiletry bag, I chose one of Pinaud's lighter plastic bottles as a companion on this northern journey. As a glass bottle, it would be a blast, but in the mineral oil variant, the packaging of the American barbershop classic is significantly lighter than the bulletproof armored glass and Steyr-Puch designed cartridge. I must comment separately on this tobacco grenade from the Alps. I must, I must!

Yes, but Classic Vanilla could, by its very name, backfire spectacularly. However, when applied to my freshly shaved face, I am surrounded by the lovely yet sharply masculine sweetness of jasmine. Perhaps still slightly masculine because a finely balanced spiciness from herbs catches this and soon takes the upper hand. Sage: fine by me. Lavender: hmm. Nothing is citrusy, nothing is aquatic, nothing is mossy. A light powdery note follows, a tiny bit leaning towards honey, which surprisingly lasts quite a while for an aftershave. Warm and gentle. The skin is poppy soft and so smooth, so thorough, so thorough, so smooth because... No, no, I do have a safety razor with a blade! A matter of honor. Really now.
The finer and silkier note remains my companion for a while through this wonderful Swedish summer morning. Even then, as we stroll through the early morning streets of Ystad following in Kurt Wallander's footsteps. In the grand old-fashioned hat shop, I try on silly hat after silly hat, the lovely saleswomen take it all in Swedish cool. No sideways glances because of my still freshly clean scent cloud? No.

Well done, Mr. Pinaud! Pretty old school, my dear. And surprisingly understated for an American. Even for Swedish noses.
