Venetian Goods VI: Balm for the Soul
I buy an expensive, soothing balm made from the finest natural raw materials that come to Venice via trade routes. It treats any form of discomfort and has an extremely sensual scent.

The erotic heaviness must be attributed to a refined rose extract combined with animal secretions. The floral animality presents itself here as soft and velvety yet cool. The oud forms a balsamic-medical triad with oily resins and moist patchouli, which harmonizes wonderfully with the heart note. A beautiful note of cedarwood gradually joins in.

The combination of soft, bodily notes and almost alcoholically sterile balsamic notes initially feels somewhat strange. However, as a successful balance is achieved here, everything comes together to form an interesting and quite beautiful fragrance composition.

The Animal Woman
Do you know the film Cat People from 1982 with Nastassja Kinski? This seductive young woman who transforms into black panthers, whom only one could touch (her lover)
At first glance innocent yet expressing a gaze of greed veiled by long lashes, here appears a being one should approach with caution. I was very fascinated by the film and the story behind it back then - I watched it twice. Immediately after spraying this fine essence, the film came to mind. Yes, the scent is animalistic and a little softly calling and enticing for submission, for coupling through sweaty, wildly loving people who allow all feelings and live out their fetishes. As I said, a bit of caution is warranted. Worn by a woman, this scent is certainly perceived as an invitation by men - but this lady has claws. After a few hours, the scent becomes a bit tamer, yet it still resembles a somewhat displayed sex skin (strange word - just came to mind); it smells sinful, spicy, with a dark rose undertone. Those who are brave wear it to the office (two sprays are enough), and wait to see what happens. In the evening, with an elegant gown or nightdress, feel free to be a bit more generous. In a cool environment, it really shines. An impression of this animal woman lingers…
The bottle is a small precious treasure with a heavy golden cap, priced at 250 euros, oh la la. It has a very long lasting power; the scent traces are still very present on clothing the next day. Of course, it can also be worn by a man, so what…
Here, you have your private predator show.

And forever the beast beckons!
Before I get to the scent itself, I would like to express some thoughts on the topic of "animalic perfumes." When do we (or rather, each of us) classify a perfume as "animalic"? Is it when it contains notes like musk, castoreum, civet, hyraceum (rarely used), or even leather? I am generally open to these scent notes, but the effect of the respective perfume is always decisive. Because: A little animal can (sometimes) work for me too....

What I cannot stand are perfumes that smell like bodily fluids or excretions, such as sweat (usually caused by cumin, less often by nutmeg or other spices), urine (thankfully I have only rarely smelled this in perfumes, usually it comes from honey, which I otherwise really like as a note), or dung (sometimes caused by oud, very rarely by amber - but if skatole appears in the pyramid, all alarm bells go off for me!). I really don't need blood as a scent note! And let's not even talk about what chestnut blossoms supposedly smell like in nature...

A perfume-enthusiast acquaintance of mine procured Vinegia for me at a very reasonable price - because of the beautiful bottles. Based on previous statements, I was prepared for quite a "wild beast" in terms of the scent. The pyramid (castoreum, oud) doesn't provide any reassurance either. But then on my skin: no - at first maybe a tiny bit "stable" or "predator cage," but it really stays within limits on me! Okay, I sprayed sparingly. I don't have to think about sweaty men (thankfully!). Animalic - yes, indeed, but really in the narrower sense, meaning like (fur-wearing) animals, not like an unkempt (or even incontinent) human.
On me, Vinegia, especially as it develops, primarily comes across as woody, with that typical note I recognize from many other perfumes that (allegedly or actually) contain oud. Leather? Not necessarily... floral only minimally on me. Rather, I imagine a little smoke in the background.

I certainly would not wear Vinegia to a job interview, at least not for a typical office job, and it is hardly a suitable perfume for the office or client meetings. But for cooler autumn evenings, alone at home or with familiar people in a private setting, it is quite a wearable scent for me - but that is certainly skin-dependent. In any case, it is a perfume far from the everyday!

Sexy, animalistic Orient. Can you hear me?
Which perfume lover doesn't know it? Boadicea's Nemer was or is a very special scent. It brought me closer to an animalistic oud for a hefty price in a beautiful golden bottle. I believe I paid more than €300 back then. I had never smelled anything so wild. I call these Orientals wild eaglewood beasts! They scream for recognition!

Vinegia from the Merchant of Venice reminded me most of Nemer. Here I see rose water sprayed in the air surrounded by sweaty men who have rubbed themselves with animalistic musk and oud oils.
The whole thing is a mix of feces sweetened and burning juniper gin.
Some may find this whole beaver musk unbearable. I, on the other hand, see it as bold, loud, and sexy. Too much of it and one is surely turned off, but a 180 € bottle used sparingly creates excitement and curiosity in my counterpart.
It is exciting, it is different, you can't miss it! Those who want that should go for it. It can also be very soft, around hour four. Then it is like balm and the wild beast has calmed down. Clear recommendation for bold men and women. It is worth its price for the quality. However, it barely beats Boadicea's Nemer.

A strongly tamed predator for beginner tamers: a bit of Oud, a bit of wood, a bit of animalic, a bit of spice: together they are striking, but not loud.

Sweet red fruit, rose, and relentless, hard animalic combine delicate femininity with wild masculinity. Absolutely unisex, but absolutely sexy.

Wow! A green, unsweet floral animalic that comes with a lot of dark warmth,
without being loud or intrusive. Serious sexuality.

In the dark forest lies a lot of resinous dried wood, spicy, robust smoke rises from a small cabin, and in the background, a beaver waves.
