Midnight Desert: Y are you so cheap?
I became aware of Lou de Pre through Miki Monumental ("Broke because of fragrances"). In his video, he praises the high quality of the fragrances in comparison to other, typical dupe brands such as One Avenue or La Rive. When I happened to walk past the perfume shelf in my local DM yesterday and was able to test Dark Cedrus, Amber Flame and Midnight Desert, I spontaneously decided to take the latter home with me.
This Y Eau de Parfum clone starts with a wonderful, citrusy effervescence that reminds me of typical summer drinks such as Sprite or Schartner Bombe. It then develops in a very aquatic direction and remains predominantly fresh, with a slightly woody amber base resonating in the background. This remains in the DD until the fragrance has completely evaporated after around 7 hours.
The longevity is really remarkable for a Cheapie. Although I don't know the original well enough to be able to compare its performance, it is more than satisfactory for a €15 cheapie. The sillage is initially very good and room-filling, but the scent trail quickly recedes and settles at around 20-30 cm after 2 hours at the latest. Nevertheless, I am very satisfied with this performance overall.
Conclusion: Given the price, you really have to ask yourself how Lou de Pre managed to pull this off. The fragrance is excellently put together, all the ingredients seem high quality and H/S are completely satisfactory. Amber Flame and Dark Cedrus are also very high quality, but it was above all the freshness and effervescence of Midnight Desert that tempted me to buy it. If you're looking for a very affordable summer fragrance that doesn't have to hide behind expensive designers, you should definitely buy this one!
