Oud, Resin, Repeat: Jidden’s Middle‑Lane Experience
Jidden opens with an oud combo of aged cambodian + indian that’s unmistakably real but pleasantly tempered. A dry, resin‑forward oud profile that’s woody, earthy and only lightly skanky. It seems like Miyaz tends use aged ouds, and you can smell that restraint; they’re present, textured, but never feral. The opening cheesiness is there, but more Mysore sandal terpene than hindi funk. The fir and spruce bring a pine‑resin smokiness.
Fifteen minutes in, the champaca absolute’s apricot haze blooms, adding a soft fruit‑floral elevation over the house’s now familiar leathery‑dark‑chocolate backbone. By the one‑hour mark, the (unlisted but obvious) Mysore sandal shows up, before gradually receding 3-4 hours later, letting the darker oud‑resin axis retake the wheel.
Jidden is woody, resinous, slightly smoky, with a touch of ambered sweetness and evergreen freshness. Performance wise, we are talking about 8 hours longevity with moderate projection.
Overall, it is a very good release with high‑quality oud (based on my limited experience), but it sits squarely in the Miyaz center‑lane: familiar and enjoyable… yet not pushing toward any definite profile in particular. If you love resin + apricot nuances, this is the one. Otherwise, look to the clearer and more structured personalities in the line (e.g. Iris Cacao, Agar Agave).
I must also note that here is some repetition creeping into Miyaz’s catalogue, and Jidden is one of the blends that feels least committed to a distinctive direction.
