Vanilla and the Unwanted Friend
I am currently testing this fragrance for the third time and I don't know whether I should hate or love it.
The reason for this is the beginning of the scent journey. It starts with an alcoholic note, which is not dramatic, as it fades away super quickly. But then something distinctly woody/smoky comes into play, and that confuses me a bit. Unfortunately, for me personally, it has a hint of cigarette ash, and that doesn’t fit into my idea of “Vanilla Crunch.” The vanilla is already detectable at the same time, and yes, what can I say, it is super beautiful! Not too sweet, very soft and warm.
I am puzzled that I perceive two such different notes so clearly and like one note so much, while I find the other note very disturbing.
It’s as if good old Vanilla brought an unwanted friend to the cozy evening. A friend that makes some people think, “How do these two even go together? He’s a completely different type!” and “He’s too loud and intrusive for a cozy evening. Hopefully, he leaves soon.”
Still, one is fascinated and observes how the two might complement each other and where exactly a connection has formed.
Well, even though something like an interest in the surprise guest has developed, I am relieved about the course of the evening: The unwanted guest gradually fades out and leaves (thank God) a bit earlier. He allows us to enjoy a nice, cozy evening with our friend Vanilla, just as we had imagined.
In plain text: it takes about half to three-quarters of an hour for me until this beautiful vanilla can finally be smelled in all its glory. And it doesn’t smell cheesy sweet or cheap.
It is excellent for layering. The fragrance is kept relatively simple and therefore serves as a good base to bring some vanilla into other scents.
Due to the woody note, I could also imagine that it comes across very well on men. Here, I might actually like the woody note.
But for me, as a flower, fruit, and vanilla lover, it is unfortunately unsuitable.
I really like the bottle with the round wooden cap and especially the sprayer. Unexpectedly good and dense spray mist. We love that!
