Excursion into the green enchanted forest
Come with me into the forest - pssst - what was that just now?
Be still and be quiet, there is life everywhere.
Not only in the trees, in the stream or in the pond - deep between the roots lies the cabbage kingdom ...
So, earworm mission of the day accomplished for all over 30 perfumos. A long-awaited parcel arrived from Ukraine today and, bang, I was transported deep into the green enchanted forest with one spray. Straight to David, our dwarf doctor! He only heals with natural products and therefore has a whole arsenal of herbs, seeds, roots and (basic biology knowledge is thinning out noticeably)... eh... Healing green stuff.
I've been looking for a green-herbaceous fragrance that doesn't have any fougère overtones for some time now. I like moss, lavender, leather and herbs, but most fragrances are too masculine for me and always remind me strongly of my - God rest his soul - dear grandfather. Or you can get rosemary or sage / basil, but then you like them with a maritime/aquatic touch or in a "dry, warm" Mediterranean style. There's nothing wrong with either of these, I have them too! But I would like it to be green-herbaceous and Nordic fresh, without too much wood if possible. Thanks to @Minigolf's lovely review + follow-up comment, I was more than curious and took the plunge...and won a free ticket to the green dwarf forest! Bingo!
The opening is huiiiiiiii... if you suffer from allergies or currently have a slight cold - this will clear your nose again. Pinimentol cold ointment full gallon into the olfactory organ. I'm skeptical, but fortunately the initial menthol bomb subsides to a very socially acceptable level within a few minutes. Oh and becomes softer, more pleasing. It's still greener than Ireland's meadows and slightly tart, spicy, very herbaceous, but a floral, slightly creamy note joins in. It makes me think of Atrix hand cream, which my mother always uses. Jo - camomile! Fits! Every primary school biology teacher (for me it was still called HSU...) would have a field day with this fragrance, as the collected herbs stand in a row like a children's choir and every now and then a different one takes turns crowing out the lead voice, a cheerful guessing game as to what comes next.
Minigolf called it a "thick bouquet of spices" and that sums it up pretty well. Stauß, because the marigolds and camomile accompany the herbal potpourri in a pretty white and delicate way and prevent it from having too much medicinal flair. Incidentally, it remains consistently unsweet! No danger of Jägermeister!
Funnily enough, towards the end I notice the (star) aniseed listed in the top note more clearly.
I really like the progression of the fragrance and especially the base, because there is no wood or, in this case, completely inappropriate musk/amber/the usual suspects to make it "long-lasting". Also, spicy is not the same as oriental here. Nevertheless, the fragrance lasts well on me, sillage is socially acceptable (apart from the initial waft).
August Evening is an excellent choice of name. You get a fresh, green herbal scent that carries the warmth of a fading summer. But be careful where you spray it - the pinimethol note is much stronger on clothing! After all, we want a nice herbal bouquet and not cold bath / VapoRub associations...
