In cold Britain with a gourmand and the love of a city.
Monday morning 9am.
Departure towards the airport with the destination - London Heathrow.
This fragrance has been waiting for me at the hotel reception for over a week.
I had already had the idea several times to order a fragrance that is difficult to get hold of in Germany while on vacation (thanks to @Inesz for the inspiration for this brilliant idea) and at the same time save a lot on shipping costs and now I had finally found one that had piqued my interest!
I had already been looking forward to this trip in advance, as it had been some time since I had spent time in one of my favorite cities. The fact that I was now able to combine this trip with some new olfactory impressions made it all the better!
Arrived at LHR, off to the Underground - Piccadilly Line - 39min ride separate me from my (perhaps) new olfactory love.
I left the subway, got out into the cold air - I'd already been told during the flight that 4°C and rain (typically British) awaited us and got to the hotel as quickly as possible.
Check in, room card and the nice lady was already smiling when I said my name (Oh, there's something that's already waiting for you) and so I happily accepted my package.
As soon as I arrived in the room, the box was already open and I was holding a heavy little box in my hand that opened like a book.
Inside was a black cushion with a perfect frame and a simple black bottle. Matt black lacquered with a shiny black plaque.
I took the lid off and the first spray landed directly on my forearm - WOW!
The top note opens with a picture-book gourmand, warm cinnamon and non-animalic oud form a really great sweet opening with the spicy cinnamon and a gentle alcoholic note and immediately gave me a pleasant feeling.
If you take a closer look at the fragrance pyramid, you might miss a cherry, as this note can also be detected somewhere in this constellation.
As I couldn't wait any longer and it was my first evening in London, the fragrance immediately became my evening scent and I sprayed it on my neck, nape and hairline several times as I usually do.
Sprayed and happy with my new treasure in the collection, I went out into the cold, rainy evening and the fragrance took its course.
After a few minutes, the sweet-spicy top note is joined by a warm blend of honey and pleasant tonka beans, which form a great symbiosis with the tobacco and add a shy orchid. Here, however, the (for me, not at all as it is often known, wax-like fragrance) plays the main role for me and one has the feeling that a warming scarf is wrapped around the neck from the various notes and protects it from the cold. That was the moment when the fragrance finally cast its spell over me.
If you give it a little more time, you are caressed by a pleasantly woody, slightly resinous fragrance base and the fragrance becomes a truly harmonious base to the sweet gourmand notes that precede it. The oud comes into its own here as a warm, slightly medicinal note and is by no means animalistic, but rather woody, soft and totally cuddly, snuggled into the other resinous notes and sweet accords.
The end of the city trip had come and I realized that I had only
2 other fragrances during the entire stay and otherwise automatically reached for Halcyon Oud.
Now, 24 hours later, I'm sitting on the couch at home, 3 sprays on and enjoying this really great fragrance, just like the first time I smelled it, which has literally sweetened my stay and I'm really happy to be able to link the experiences I've had with a fragrance.
Thank you to everyone who has managed to read this far and survived my ramblings :)
