What By The Fireplace should’ve been!
(2024 Edition) A classic combination, executed to near perfection. Vanilla, tobacco, sandalwood, oud and a touch of clove to round it out. Deeply indulgent, satisfying, comforting. The perfect scent to accompany a cozy night by the fireplace.
The vanilla and tobacco could be considered most prominent, being given a rich, smoky depth from the oud and a gentle creaminess from the sandalwood, with the clove providing just a touch more spice to round out that dimension. There could also be said to be some fruity nuances, as one might expect from tobacco and oud.
Overall it’s a woody, smoky, resinous gourmand that’s sweet but not too sweet—very deftly blended, with intimate understanding of each ingredient. At 35% it sits on the skin until washing, and provides a solid scent bubble for at least it’s first 4-6 hours. Being all mid and base notes the progression is quite faint, simply becoming a bit sweeter as the natural vanilla lingers on for days.
Pricewise, I consider the lower-end UCCAs such as this, Universal Fougere and Javanese Coffee to be very well priced, with nearly as much value per quality ingredient as Phronema!
Film associations: One could say Christmas movies due to the associations of sweetness and warmth, fireplaces, etc.
Music associations: One could potentially say Christmas music. And mind you I’m not a big Christmas guy, it’s just the closest association in my mind! I just noticed the review below also makes a big mention of it. I suppose the association might not be an uncommon one!
Other fragrance associations: If you’d like a cheaper approximation of the same profile Maison Alhambra’s Sceptre Oceana will pretty much do the trick, I haven’t yet smelt the Bulgari it’s based on but I’m sure that’d likely do it as well for a prettier penny.
