Also works in winter
As soon as I received it in the post, I thought it was overpriced, overrated, synthetic, pungent, like a drugstore fragrance.
In view of the reviews here and my sometimes unreliable initial assessments, I gave it a second chance the next day. And voila, grapefruit, green, guaiac. It smells sparklingly fresh, citrusy and spicy, light, velvety-tart, cuddly and yet not overpowering.

You can be so wrong.
A few weeks ago, I had the idea of going to a perfumery on the side of the road and spraying on the famous and unknown (ashes on my head) Reflection Man.
As luck would have it (damn!), it was a fairly small perfumery, it was 2 weeks before Christmas and it was Friday afternoon. Ok, coincidence wasn't entirely in charge.
Anyway, anyone can probably work out that I wasn't the first person there that day to ask for a spray or two. Not the hundredth either, of course, because the place was full. Very full. But perhaps one of the first five hundred, especially as it was still early afternoon. A gift.
I slowly made my way to the sales counter, making clever use of all the tricks you normally only need in a long ski lift queue, and somehow managed to catch a tenth of a second of the annoyed, somewhat more sedate sales assistant's wandering eyes and ask if they stocked Amouage. Her facial features relaxed a little. Under her guidance, we made our way across to the other corner, which was not as difficult as we had feared thanks to the saleswoman's authority. Then she climbed up a ladder (Reflected remain silent on this...), brought down the requested fragrance and sprayed a strip of paper 4 or 5 times before presenting it to me. My excitement was at its peak. Test strip under the nose and ...soap. Swung by again: soap. Waved: Soap. Fanned: soap. Shaken: Soap. Please once on the back of my hand: soap.
No such thing, I thought. This is supposed to be the famous RM? I remained silent. The experienced saleswoman turned around: Here we still have the x Man , the y Man and so on. Each time 4 to 5 sprays, but each time soap, with only the Epic Man adding spiciness.
So what do I tell the saleswoman now? Because I had to get out. Quickly. I asked for another spray of Reflection Man on the back of my hand and pushed my way out.
Fresh air, I was so glad. And somehow, after the initial and absolute disappointment, also a little relieved at the pecuniary opportunities that the decision to end all my Amouage hopes held out. It was only perfume.

2 hours later in the restaurant. A younger waitress wants to take my order, but first she blurts out that something smells incredibly good, with a kind of radar glance over my head. Surprised and unsure, I hold out the back of my hand to her. "That's it" she exclaims ecstatically. I had never received such spontaneous compliments before. But it soon dawned on me that the compliment wasn't about me, but about the scent.
Hmmh, should I rethink my conclusion? After all, I now found the soap soft and creamy and the sharpness was gone.
Over the course of the rest of the day, I liked the scent more and more. Finally, there was no more soap at all. And when the fragrance was still good the next day, now with floral notes, I was hooked and convinced that I had to buy a bottle.

The attentive reader will have long since noticed, and so did I, that my nose had been numbed for a few hours by the olfactory overkill in the perfumery.
And the moral of the story? Testing in passing doesn't work (wink).

Well, the test bottling was quickly ordered.
But stop, stop, stop!
There was also this Reflection 45, the successor. The upgrade. The big brother. Similar, but better than the original. More grown-up. More masculine. More luxurious. Powerhouse. The legend. And sexy!!!

So I also ordered bottling R45. RM on the left, R45 on the right.
Well, what else can I say, I'll keep it short. I share all the praise that has already been described in the previous reviews of both fragrances. Both are excellent fragrances that I am very enthusiastic about. They are similar in scent, yet different.

However, I still have two tips for one or two readers.
All the women whose expertise I have asked for this comparison like the RM much better, I like the R45 (slightly).
And finally, I would like to say that when I read the reviews, I thought that layering was a far-fetched, decadent suggestion. But now I have to put that into perspective: If you already own both, you should definitely give it a try.

Last but not least, when comparing the two directly, a wonderful, very discreet whiff of Hubbabubba floated past several times. I have a suspicion.
