Reflection 45

FANTASTIC!!
I am an enthusiastic Amouage loyalist, and I found this “on sale” for $400. It was a choice between this one and Interlude 53, and I chose this one.

This is definitely fuller, richer, and thicker than the original version. A louder and stronger scent, that only projects to a roughly 2ft radius, with a sillage trail that lingers nicely. You have to get in close, but it does mark where you’ve been. It also lasts over 8hours as far as longevity goes.

If you like the original, you will love how this one smells.

Is it worth $500 though? Honestly, I would say no. Does that mean I regret buying it, or dislike it? Nope. Hell, I’m probably going to buy the Interlude 53 as well. I’m just saying it is overpriced.

Honestly I say all frags that exceed $200 are overpriced. But so are video games, fine wines, and women's purses. It’s a hobby. I enjoy collecting them, and I will foolishly overpay for all of my favorite brands of scents.

Again. This is FANTASTIC in my opinion. I love the original; this one amplifies all of my favorite aspects of it, and outperforms it in longevity. I do wish it projected more, but when you have higher degrees of concentration, you lose projection. That’s an unfortunate fact. It DOES leave a thick sillage trail behind though, and no one else smells like I do when I sport this.

When you start looking at frags that cost this much, and consider buying them, you’re an addict, and you’re GOING TO overpay, period. No 100ml glass bottle of smelly oils is worth $200+. Will you admit it to yourself? That’s the question. I admit it, and I’m going to proudly waste more money on more frags, so I can enjoy my time on sites like this with people like you.

Cheers!

REFLECTION 45

I found it better with much more quality than Reflection Traditional and also similar, for sure the DNA remained. This Extrait version adds a good hint of incense, I found it less sweet and powdery which made it less cloying in drying, and more linear than the Traditional and with a similar projection as well and with greater fixation.
A Delicious, Sophisticated and Super Elegant Perfume!

Reflection 45 opens spicy and slightly spicy headed by a fresh green Cardamom and seasoned by mild Pepper, already blending with the characteristic Lavender of Reflection that on my skin to my sense of smell here is still present and striking but less pronounced than in its predecessor, the accord formed by Benzoin and Tonka already carries the ambery signature of Amouage. That wonderful feeling of cleanliness continues.

And from there comes the iconic bouquet of White Flowers that gave so much fame to the original creation, but in this new version they are masterfully muffled by Resins and the famous green and sweet Incense of Amouage, the Hojari Frankincense, used here sparingly, the delicately powdery Iris is dominated this time by a more present woody base, heavy and dry adding depth and masculinity to the fragrance.

Summarizing... Reflection Man is brighter, more open, and fresher; Reflection 45 is a Woody Amber Floral Resinous perfume; It still has luminosity and freshness, but it is denser, resinous and closed.
This makes the Reflection 45 a little less versatile than the Traditional, that is, on days of torrid heat it may not do so well in my opinion. Still, for me it was the evolution of a consecrated formula of success for the brand. As I stated at the beginning I prefer the Reflection 45 is more my face. The bottle is a show apart.

Reflection of the reflection
Quality, blend and the smell itself is awesome and it stays on your skin for 10+ hours. Compared to the original it got much havier and somehow lost the airiness the original has. What this tragically lacks and makes me stick to the original Reflection Man is the projection. If I pay such a premium price for a fragrance I definitely expect others to be able to smell it. Sometimes the oil concentration (Extrait de parfum) just is not the most important thing and this one has passed the optimal ratio in my humble opinion. In this case Amouage could take a lesson from Nishane, which does their extraits exceptionally well and mostly finds the right balance between projection and longevity in their fragrances. I'm glad I purchased the sample first and so should you.

Superior version of the Reflection DNA
Reflection 45 is quite similar to Reflection but it immediately becomes obvious that it's the superior fragrance. In what way is it so much better? The florals are turned down a bit with incense quite noticeable in the drydown making it a truly masculine fragrance. (I classify plain Reflection as unisex at best.) The other thing that impressed me was the added depth to the fragrance. Reflection seemed to be flat and one dimensional while 45 has the added depth and presence.

Similar to Reflection, 45 is the florals, powder and incense/spice but dialed up and down correctly to better proportions. Being an extrait, longevity and projection are both better with 45.

If you like this DNA, definitely go with Reflection 45, if you can afford. Price is expensive. You'll have to decide if it's worth it for you. For me personally, I don't really care that much for the DNA, so I'll skip both Reflection and Reflection 45.

This might be my favorite fragrance thus far. Who would've thought you could improve on the original DNA?!

Powdery to a fault, BUT
A clever fougère structure makes it wearable!
After a floral/spicy assault, myrrh & sandalwood tend to the wounded.

Original Reflection man is 10/10 for me. This is 6/10 at best. Stick with the original. This smells darker and resinous almost medicinal.

Blends metallic, soapy cleanliness with a hint of something dirty. Incredibly well-blended. Fine-dining staple. Less sweet than the OG.

This version is better Reflection. It cuts the opening metallic vibe that I can’t rely on. It’s more complex and dense than the original.
