Memory in a Bottle
I rate this fragrance significantly better than most would here.
Why? Because it deserves it in my opinion and is rather rarely mentioned among all the discussions online about Diptyque's best perfumes.
But I also rate it better than most here because this scent represents a beautiful memory for me. Not only that, this fragrance was my entry into the niche world of perfumes and has brought me closer to this hobby, probably even passion.
What memory was that? The first time flying back to London after all the Corona lockdowns. London is my absolute favorite city. If I weren't such a family person and didn't want my parents around me, I would have moved to London a long time ago. I bought the perfume at the Diptyque Store in Covent Garden on the recommendation of the salesperson. Until then, I was only used to classic male fragrances like Paco Rabanne and Armani. And then there was this. Rose and somehow something watery, cool. At first, I thought it smelled too "quirky" and far too feminine for my taste at the time. But I took the tester with me and noticed that I kept smelling it throughout the entire day. It happened as it had to. I bought the perfume, and that was the beginning of a wonderful journey through the niche world. A journey on which my taste has changed significantly, and the "quirky and feminine" L'Ombre dans L'Eau suddenly doesn't smell so quirky and feminine anymore. It’s probably even one of my least quirky perfumes now.
I love it. Yes, I can really say that. I get quite sentimental when I smell it. I have discovered that I really like rose scents. Even though I wouldn't describe it as a typical rose fragrance, the rose is clearly recognizable. But for me, the rose grows in a garden with a pond, and it has rained all day. That's what it is for me, the scent smells like a long rainy day in England. It is a memory in a bottle.
And how beautiful this bottle is. In general, Diptyque deserves praise for their design. For me, Diptyque is one of the houses with the most beautiful bottles, and the stores are simply gorgeous.
The only downside, as is the case with a large part of the house's perfumes, is the performance. Somehow the scent doesn't last as long as I would wish and as I am used to from other perfumes in my collection. I attribute this to the fragrance notes used, as there is simply little that could last longer. The sillage is quite good at first but becomes very close to the skin after a while. The longevity noticeably decreases after the first hour; a few hours later, you can only faintly sense the scent with goodwill.
But well, price-wise, Diptyque is really fair, at least in my opinion, so you can easily apply another spritz. Yesterday, I wore it again after a long time; it was a rather cooler day here in Munich, and somehow the scent fits that. At the latest, on the next rainy day, I will take the fragrance out of the shelf again. And I will always remember that one day in London.

Widian London & why it is always sold out
So why is it constantly sold out? Here in Munich, it has been quite a struggle to even test it over the past few months. At most, the empty bottle was held out to you by salespeople in the hope that you might catch a whiff of the last drops still in the bottle. For an investment in this price range, however, I need a more thorough test.
You think so! Coincidentally, there was another delivery of the fragrance, accompanied by the salesperson's note that unfortunately, this time the supply was rather poor as well. Somehow, out of pressure, I immediately decided to buy it & I got lucky. The scent is really very nice and I like it. I can also somewhat understand why it is so often sold out (any supply chain issues aside).
But: if you already have Ombre Nomade, Tuscan Leather, or similar leather-oud-raspberry combinations in your collection, Widian is probably redundant. In my opinion, it doesn't do anything much better than its counterparts, but it does seem a bit finer to me. Whether the perfume smells about 250 EUR for 50ml finer, everyone has to decide for themselves. I don’t regret the purchase, but my wallet does.
The scent itself is for me somewhere between 8 and 9 out of 10. Nothing particularly outstanding or special (that sounds almost too harsh now), but somehow still really "delicious." I just find it pleasant and really well-rounded. You can smell the individual notes, but they somehow form a harmonious whole.
The performance is good to very good, but after reading about the longevity of 9 here, I expected a bit more. Strange, maybe it’s also due to my skin, but I know many perfumes that are rated here with 8 or lower for longevity and perform much stronger. The same goes for the sillage, by the way.
The bottle is nice but not to my taste, hence a bit of a deduction. I just prefer clearer bottles in which you can also assess the remaining amount.
As for the price, everything has been said; it's just a bit too expensive for me personally, and I REALLY like to spend money on perfumes. Here again, my wallet shrinks in fear.
As for the overall rating, since the scent is currently Top 2 Unisex, I find it incomprehensible. I’m fine with letting Top 10 pass.

Oud Satin Mood & the whole day long
For a long time, I admired the various MFK sales stands in the local perfumeries until finally the ultimate offer came: the small (10ml?) bottle was on sale for the same price per liter as the 70ml. Normally, smaller sizes are even more brutally priced, but here I just had to seize the opportunity.
The nice saleswoman then applied all the marketing tricks available, like "there are only 4 pieces left, grab them quickly." Well, I’ll do the lady a favor and grab one. And how I grabbed one.
Since the purchase, I feel like I haven't put the bottle down, possibly to the chagrin of my colleagues, who have to smell it all day long (or rather, get to). Sprayed on before work, the scent announces all day long, "I am in the office." And you can smell it not just in my own office but throughout the entire hallway. The feedback has been more than positive so far, and I had to note the name of the perfume several times.
In short: the scent is fantastic, the longevity and sillage even more fantastic.
For me, Oud Satin Mood is the best in the line. It is sold as unisex, but I find it quite feminine. However, since I like it so much and the oud keeps the very sweet rose somewhat in check, this will be my next big purchase. Or maybe even the Extrait de Parfum right away, then not only my department hallway will smell it, but probably the whole house.

BR540 Scent Twin?!
On the internet, you constantly read that this fragrance is a twin of Baccarat Rouge. A twin? Probably from different parents!
Francis Kurkdjian is probably shedding tears when he has to read this about his bestseller. I feel for him and even shed a few while writing this.
Regardless of the fact that Cloud has nothing in common with BR540 except for the (in this case even more penetrating) sweetness, I find the scent rather unpleasant. Gourmand but in the cheap version, more like the candies from the bargain bin than the fine chocolates from Switzerland. Plus, it somehow smells like balloons to me?!
And one more thing: what is up with this bottle? Even if the scent were a 10/10, I wouldn't want that thing in my perfume shelf. I'm sorry Ariana (even though you probably have little to do with the fragrance aside from the name you provide and nice advertising photos):
that was nothing!

Fresh from Verona
Last week, on my way to Tuscany, I made a stop at the perfume shops in Verona. My first stop is usually Carlotta, a great store with a really well-trained salesperson whom I somehow like, even though he sometimes comes off as a bit unfriendly with his arrogantly "French" demeanor (strange, isn’t he Italian?!). Be that as it may: I tested a lot, but unfortunately, the spark didn’t ignite. Either I already knew the perfumes from Munich (I don’t need to buy them more expensively in Italy) or they were unfortunately sold out.
Next, I went to Maison 22, a shop I hadn’t heard of before with only 4 reviews on Google (but it seems to have been around for a while, very strange). Great selection, but also very steep prices compared to online shopping or the Munich stores. Yes, I can’t believe I’m saying this: Munich is definitely cheaper here)
Well, on to the next stop: Merchant of Venice. And wow! I didn’t even know what to buy first. Or actually, I immediately decided on Arabesque.
Since I was initially on the go towards Tuscany and always feel a bit anxious with warm temperatures and expensive perfumes, I simply popped back into the store in Verona on my return trip and bought quite a bit for myself (and as a gift for my parents).
Now about the perfume:
At first, I thought, "Wow, this smells like Oajan," but then I quickly realized that I must have remembered it wrong. Then I thought, "Oh no, this is more like Widian London." But somehow, that wasn’t it either.
Arabesque is Arabesque, and that’s a good thing!
By the way, anyone who claims a longevity of less than 9 must have tested a different perfume. I sprayed it on Tuesday, showered, and swam in the sea for two hours on Wednesday afternoon & I could still perceive it!
I give it a clear recommendation. Not my favorite, but definitely a candidate for the regular rotation on colder days. Possibly even on warm days; actually, you can wear it anytime.
