How opinions about a fragrance can change.
I had already written a statement. However, due to the complexity of the scent, it no longer seems comprehensive enough, so here is the review.
The fragrance was shown to me in April by a nice guy at a perfumery in Tübingen. At the time, the scent was just too much for me. I wondered who would want to smell like that and ultimately chose
Carlisle.
A few months went by, but this scent stayed in my mind. I then got a sample at my local perfumery and found it still difficult. However, I couldn't get my nose away from the sample. So far, I've only experienced something similar with my favorite
Black Afgano Extrait de Parfum.
About the scent itself:
The fragrance has a strong oud note. This is not necessarily beginner-friendly and has quite animalistic tendencies on my skin. However, there are also much "barn-like" ouds.
Cypriol joins in, making the scent very smoky.
Opus XIII - Silver Oud therefore evokes the association of a fireplace room in Ireland for me. In Ireland, peat was and still is (even though it's forbidden :)) sometimes burned instead of wood, which has a very unique smell. Anyone who has smelled that before can imagine quite accurately how
Opus XIII - Silver Oud smells.
In any case, my mother is from Ireland, and we spent many summers there during my childhood and youth. And when I smell the fragrance, it catapults me right back to those times.
Later on, a very naturally smelling vanilla joins in, which is not too sweet. I think that's great.
About longevity & sillage:
It lasts forever. The sillage is not as monstrous as one might assume. However, I find such fragrances increasingly appealing. You don't fog up the entire room; instead, you have a small scent cloud around you. Perfume is supposed to be something personal and not suffocate half the city when sprayed.
About the bottle:
The bottle is amazing. The Amouage bottles are among my favorites, alongside the bottles from Nasomatto and MFK. And with the magnet, it's so much fun to put the cap on. It sounds silly, but that's how you get me. :)
The price is, of course, very high. But I prefer to have this one fragrance that I love rather than 20 dupes that would also fall into the same price range. Moreover, the materials used are top-notch. My olfactory organ didn't figure that out itself. But if the YouTube god Aaron Terence Hughes says it, then I just believe it.
Last but not least:
Make sure to test the fragrance on your skin. The test strip does not do it justice.
With yesterday's purchase, I fulfilled a little dream and am very happy. The heart wants what it wants.
To conclude with the words from my statement, it's brutal!!
