Battle of the Sweet Lilacs
For a long time, I've been trying to find a perfume-equivalent of the Pink Lilac & Vanilla candle from Bath & Body Works. It's sweet, soft, creamy, and cozy - but most lilac-forward perfumes I've come across are fairly green/earthy, and not as gourmand as I've been hoping for.
It's been a while since we've had a "face-off" between fragrances (like Battle of the Birthday Scents + Battle of the Autumn Apples) - but since I've been hunting for a deliciously-sweet lilac-forward fragrance profile, here are a few from the latest round of gourmand lilacs.
DISLIKED:
๐ 1. French Lilac Perfume
Many consider this their "holy grail lilac solinote" - but it had far too much greenery, and not enough sweetness, for my own liking.
To me this isn't just the lilac flower, but is also the entire lilac bush - and the greenery had a bit of sharpness, to the point of it feeling slightly "spicy".
๐ 2. Iced Wisteria Eau de Parfum
I had high hopes for this - as the notes listed seemed very decadent, and many rave about this fragrance. But the gourmand notes didn't shine through as much as I would have preferred, and the lilac leaned a bit too earthy + green for my taste.
๐ 3. Titania
The notes felt misleading here, too - as there were several lactonic and gourmand elements listed, but testing the fragrance was a different story.
I wish I could pick up on any creamy richness of the other notes to balance the lilac, but this was a solinote powdery floral bomb for me. It did have massive projection and longevity - so this is an excellent choice, if you enjoy an especially-powdery lilac.
ENJOYED:
๐ 1. Crรจme Bouquet
I'll never forgive Stila for discontinuing this! Crรจme Bouquet is a gorgeous mix between creamy vanilla and pillowy lilac, and a bit of the sweet and uplifting lily. It's difficult to find an affordable bottle these days - but if you can get your hands on some, it's worth it.
๐ 2. "Fresh Cut Lilacs | Bath & Body Works"
Since this is a Bath and Body Works mist, it might be easily dismissed. But "don't knock it until you've tried it", because this is a high-quality and realistic lilac fragrance.
While I'd prefer richer/more gourmand notes added (like cream, custard, etc.), this is still a beautiful choice: just enough sweetness, not too much powder, and the greenery is fresh + well-balanced.
๐ 3. Endlessly
Truthfully, the opening was a little rough - there was something a bit rubbery/synthetic, but thankfully it dissipated after a while.
Dry-down was a simple blend of sweet lilac (30% of the fragrance), made fluffy and soft with the gourmand sweet cream (70% of the fragrance) + a hint of freesia in the background. It envelops you in a creamy + cozy lilac blanket - a must-try for any gourmand lilac lovers!
