Paying homage to Poseidon
A fragrance from under the hand of Karine Vinchon-Spehner, who created my favorite perfumes for Amouage so far, namely Myths, Boundless, and Overture. I was quite skeptical about it at first; on paper it appeared as incense and by the first reviewers it was described as a marine fragrance. This caused some dissonance; moreover, neither one nor the other strand is among my favorites. However, I trusted the author and I will say that I was not disappointed and in fact very positively surprised.

The first puff, I sniffed and the beginning seemed very unpleasant: sweet, marine, even fishy. Then I thought: "what have I done, why did I need it?". However, it's a matter of a few minutes and there is a transition to the right scent and this one is downright fantastic! A very comfortable patchouli and sea fragrance, which vibrates with a gentle minerality known for example from Megamare (here, fortunately, in a light version). Frankincense, on the other hand, occurs deep in the background, making the scent create a mint-menthol bubble around us. A cool cooling effect that probably gets the job done on warmer days. In the deep base the patchouli becomes a bit more spicy. The fragrance could be described as a temple of Poseidon perched on a cliff washed by the waves of the Mediterranean. In short: my favorite among the brand's recent releases.

Royal Tobacco, or Tobacco King?
From the beginning I had high expectations for this fragrance. I was just waiting for a good opportunity to get a flacon.

The fragrance opens with a strong hit of a dense blend consisting of candied fruits, a hefty dose of licorice and an ashtray of water-drenched slush. As the scent develops, the tobacco fades first and sweet incense resins become prominent. This moment for me personally brings to mind some resemblance to Interlude and even more to its flanker Black Iris. On the other hand, in the base, the whole thing shifts to a more balsamic-amber vibe and gets more strongly sweetened. Parameters are very good. Although the projection, except for the opening, does not match the aforementioned "big brother".

I cannot deny Opus the richness and quality of the ingredients or the compositional idea. Unfortunately, the whole through too much licorice and general sweetness did not hit my taste and my bottle found a new owner.
