A wild horse that likes to tease.
I admit it: with me too, it was love at second sight. A small splash from the tester enclosed with my PdM order and it disappeared directly into the shallows of my perfume tasting box. Disgusting...dried orange, spices...a wild horse - brrr, stop - absolutely not my case

But had a second tester in the office and tried it there again very carefully. A sprayer - giddy - and about 30min later a compliment from a colleague, although I took the social distancing very seriously. Projection and silage are typical for PdM, the scent is very intense. So you risk to be thrown from the horse if there are too many sprayers.

A week later Kalan has become one of my favourite fragrances. Once you get used to the fresh fruity spice and find out the perfect amount of spray, you have tamed the wild horse and it is very easy to ride. Of course, it can happen that some people turn up their noses when you gallop into the office on Kalan or trot through the subway at the height of summer. Others, however, will be impressed by your appearance, some will even want to stroke the horse.

After about 7 hours he slowly runs out of breath, but that is okay. Brrr - I also need a break. I put Kalan back in the stable in the evening, he will spend the next few days there while I cure my olfactory muscle ache and am satisfied with ponies and donkeys. But every few days I dare to get him out of the paddock - Hup, Hup, Hup - and ride with Kalan towards the sun of a new day.

Takes some getting used to. Some love it, others find it disgusting (especially at first sight). Also found him far too strange at first. Not necessarily a classic compliment getter, even though I have only received positive to exuberant feedback on the fragrance so far.

Uniqueness: 9/10
Yes, in the drydown I also perceive the BR540 notes, and sometimes the sweet spice reminds me a bit of Tom Ford's Effing Fabulous. Nevertheless, the fragrance is very independent and unique

Suitability for everyday use: 8/10
If one does not exaggerate it with the spray blasts he is also suitable for office use

Suitability all year round: 8/10
I will wear this in F/S as well as in H/W. The spices give it a christmasy touch for the cold season, while the bittersweet orange brings freshness in spring and (sparingly applied) probably also in summer.

Unisex rating: 7/10
Find him unisex, yet he tends to be more of a male figure to me. But in the end it is surely a matter of taste or type

H/S and intensity: 8/10
Lasts for about 8 hours despite the bitter orange notes. With 2-3 sprayers you will be strongly noticed by everyone within a radius of 2 meters. With more sprays you risk headaches. An intense fragrance.

Packaging and bottle: 4/10
As a designer with a penchant for minimalist aesthetics, I don't like the PdM bottles in general. The ostentatious bottles are too reminiscent of pseudo-elitist Alpha-Male CEO shaving water, both in terms of packaging design and bottle. Mallet luxury. But at least the workmanship and material are neat and tidy.

For whom?
Twenties to mid-forties, who like to polarize. Who don't smell like everybody else and don't want to please everybody. Kalan is not an 0815 scent that 0815 people wear at the disco. Not Layton, not Aventus, not Sauvage, not a million. Nevertheless or just because of that, at least in my environment, it is usually very well received (but I'm not a big disco or club goer). Kalan stands out from the crowd and leaves an impression - (for me very) often positive, sometimes negative

What does it smell like?
I find it smells like a wet pile of leaves in front of a barbershop, in which one puts dried pieces of blood orange and lavender, and then covers it with spices and herbs. Baccarat Rouge similarity if at all only in the drydown, for me a completely different scent, much spicier. Not a typical PdM, whoever expects Layton/Herod DNA here will be disappointed.

Blindbuy?
In this price category, blindbuys are generally very risky, and even more so with Kalan. Even if you like the sheet music or many other PdMs, I was still a bit irritated after reading the sheet music.

Escobar's burnt out limousine
It was a blind buy because of the great ratings and because I usually like Tom Fords very much. Freshly unpacked, sprayed on the wrist and found absolutely disgusting at first sight. But in the drydown he somehow got me, the Tom. The addictive potential probably results from the fact that the scent - as Drake has already noted - smells very intensely of cocaine (too intense). In addition comes bitter smoke and tart leather, however, the chemical coke smell simply overlays everything for me (also the often mentioned raspberry) and already causes me with 1 splash headache. After two hours, I not only smell burnt out, I feel burnt out. Even if I like the idea of the fragrance itself, I find it too intensive/chemical/smoky, too exhausting in the long run and therefore rather unbearable.
