ATH's Oud 2020 - In or Out?!
Absolutely not a "typical" Oud scent!
The very popular Tom Ford Oud Wood, on the other hand, comes across (without any judgment) as angular, sharp, and dry, with the typical Oud being very prominently present throughout the entire scent progression.
Aaron's Oud 2020 starts off quite noticeably (as the name suggests) with Oud, which remains present throughout the entire fragrance, but it feels very rounded and soft from the very beginning.
After the initial burst, fresh fruits are joined by ripe fruits. Yes, I can actually smell raspberries, dried dates, and also amber from the pyramid.
Oud gradually recedes into the background but somehow, somewhere, it is still there. Vanilla is added, and it remains fruity-sweet, but not overly or disturbingly sweet.
Longevity and sillage are, as expected, simply at a damn good level, but not as extreme and "intrusive" as with other ATHs.
By the way, I would classify Carved Oud by Thameen somewhere between TF and ATH. In my opinion, it is also an absolutely successful and balanced Oud scent.

Incredibly Unique Scent with a Short Progression
The first time I applied it, I thought OK, it’s doable but not a must!
The second time I applied it and, lo and behold, there’s something about this scent, something different, interesting!
By the third attempt, it was crystal clear to me in the evening (despite the darkness) that this fragrance definitely deserves a place in my modest yet steadily growing collection.
Yes, I also smell cola at the beginning; if you want to differentiate further, it’s something between cola, cherry cola, and vanilla cola with a splash of lemon and a pleasant sweetness that lingers!
The “fizzy” aspect disappears quite quickly, but it remains subtly present.
Enigma becomes more mature now, with flambéed cognac, ginger beer, tobacco, and fine spices joining in. The vanilla from the vanilla cola remains throughout the entire scent progression.
It has also been mentioned here that the fragrance develops quite quickly; however, the high performance lasts a long time, and the longevity is enormous for the “only” Cologne version. It doesn’t fill rooms, and the projection is rather close to the body with moderate use. However, the reach can be significantly increased with the right dosage.
It all sounds quite unspectacular, actually... BUT, what truly defines this scent and is hard to put into words is the incredible soothing warmth that this Roja fragrance radiates.
Unfortunately, I haven’t yet been able to test the Enigma pH Parfum and pH Eau de Parfum, but I’m already very, very curious...

Yuck, burnt wood!?
With relatively low expectations, I sought out a sample for the "winter days" here.
More of a gag, I sprayed it on my neck and forearm... It really starts off very, very woody; in fact, I even smell like burnt wood... extremely unique.
Was that it? No!
The fragrance develops into a soul-soother by the campfire. It becomes softer, rounder, and transitions from woody to spicy to not-too-sweet (honey, vanilla). Everything is very gentle with smoothly flowing transitions without ever becoming bothersome or intrusive.
An absolute unisex fragrance; even the biggest fragrance critic (my wife) noticed it positively and wore it the next day.
I have yet to encounter a perfume with such a unique scent progression.
Kudos to the perfumer!
While not ideal for every season, it comes with an absolute recommendation from my side!

Mercedes or Maybach?
I am comparing Elysium Cologne with Elysium Pour Homme...
I received a sample of the Cologne and was blown away. As has been described often, the scent starts off very citrusy and actually remains so throughout its entire duration. At some point, pepper and spicy herbs join in, but the fragrance never loses its cool freshness as a base. I find it to be an absolutely high-quality, uncomplicated all-rounder with a relatively unspectacular scent progression, but it has something absolutely special for me.
Can it be improved? Certainly! I ordered a sample of the Pour Homme and today I compared both directly on my skin. The opening is almost identical, although the PH appears a bit more restrained and rounded from the start. In the scent progression, it becomes a bit sweeter and more vanillic.
H&S is (at least on my skin) unfortunately even a bit "worse" than with the Cologne.
So, back to the title... Elysium PH is for me the Maybach in direct comparison, more expensive, more exclusive, and more refined.
Do I want to drive a Maybach or would I prefer a fast, rough S63? Currently, I have decided on the Mercedes, meaning the somewhat angular, louder yet absolutely practical car, um, perfume, the Elysium Cologne with excellent projection!
