Fragrances to cheer you up

Fragrances to cheer you up

This article has not been written to suggest fragrances to you to wear when you feel the staleness of life in the valley, rather it is a brief exposé much like my previous blog post, into what I reach for when my mood is under the weather, and I want to attempt a bounce back to my usual undisturbed, inner calm.

Personally, I find that clean, light (not bright) scents with notes of lavender, lily of the valley, ambergris, musk, lily, cedar, vetiver, or musk mallow, work their magic for me every time the roll is called. If you please, I would like to share my favourite reach with you, in hopes that you will do the same with me in the comments section.

There are a number of fragrances I could choose with the aforementioned notes, in my collection. However, when I especially need cheering up, I subconsciously reach for Ajmal's Musk Silk Supreme EDP.

Ajmal's Musk Silk perfume oil was and still is a hit among attar-loving fragrance collectors. However, it is a crying shame that the Supreme EDP (not toe-to-toe to the perfume oil) never got picked up in the hype wave for affordable Middle Eastern fragrances. Although it was only released in the summer of 2022, to me, it is that one-of-a-kind fragrance that satisfies a need in me.

The frosted bottle belies the scent. It is by nature, unisex, and by expression, clean. When I apply Musk Silk Supreme to my skin and pulse points, I feel what the fragrance sets out to inspire: clean, calm, collected, and lovely. There are only three notes, and one more would ruin the perfection that it is. Lily of the valley, I find, is the note that achieves this lake effect in my spirit. It is by nature green yet by expression, mutedly floral. Musk, by nature powdery and woody, and by expression, unisex. Then there is the note of amber that sings to me as a light touch of ambergris does. It is the aged kind that is by nature warm and earthy, yet by expression, musky. All notes have been given a light touch, nothing is too much or too little. And if you were itching to find something to complain about, it would be the performance. All the same, this fragrance is not one that should project wide, perform loudly and cling to your clothing for the entire work day. It does its job best, on skin and in intimate confines.

What fragrance category cheers you up? Eyes closed, what would you reach for without thinking deeply, to do the job of lifting your spirits?
