Kyphi, Papyrus and Tonka Bean: The New Eau de Parfum “Eternal Sunrise” by The Merchant of Venice

Kyphi, Papyrus and Tonka Bean: The New Eau de Parfum “Eternal Sunrise” by The Merchant of Venice

With "Eternal Sunrise", The Merchant of Venice is expanding its Progetti Speciali collection with an exclusive unisex creation inspired by the beauty of a sunrise over the Nile.

It echoes the golden hush of the morning sun on the Nile.

'Eternal Sunrise' by The Merchant of Venice captures the radiance of a new dawn on distant lands.

Eternal Sunrise - The Merchant Of Venice
Eternal Sunrise - The Merchant Of Venice

Developed in collaboration with Givaudan and perfumer Alessandro Olmo, the composition combines spicy-smoky and woody-balsamic facets: a spicy, aromatic opening of notes of kyphi, saffron and incense opens the fragrance before Akigalawood®, ambrofix and cypriol unfold a dry woody accord in the heart, infused with an earthy papyrus note. In the background, styrax rounds off the composition with its sweet, resinous character, accompanied by the tart, floral cistus and the vanilla sweetness of tonka bean.

Part of the Progetti Speciali collection

"Eternal Sunrise" was designed exclusively for the traditional London store Harrods and complements the Progetti Speciali collection - a line of luxurious and often limited-edition fragrances inspired by special stories, personalities or symbols.

Previous creations include "Imperial Emerald" (2019), a green, floral fragrance with powdery elegance, "Queen of the Night" (2023), a sweet and spicy composition based around nocturnal flowers, and "Gold Regatta" (2023), a woody-sweet fragrance inspired by the historic regatta festival in Venice.

"Eternal Sunrise" is available in a 100 ml bottle size.

Insufferable base leaning molasses-laden gourmand and appealing to the akigalophile hipsters. Nothing whatsoever to do with kyphi. Go to Astier de Villatte for that, or try Zoologist Sacred Scarab.

O, yes, Astier has a wonderful kyphi! Ropion did it great.

For those who are wondering (and will be left wondering), this is "very inspired" by YSL Babycat. Slightly less suede and a bit more sweetness. I wouldn't get too frustrated given the exclusivity.
I am based in London, and I just tried it on skin in person.

@Noturfave looking at the notes, I was pretty disappointed when I smelled it because I wasn't expecting a "clone" of something completely different. Whilst sometimes I may take time before saying that sometimes resemble something else... in this case the similarity is strong and the Babycat DNA is easy to distinguish.
Nevertheless, the bottle is fantastic... as it is an exclusive, in my opinion this is more of a collector item than anything else.

Thank you for the review and the de-hyping. I’m not going to worry myself over this release, although it is an interesting idea and bottle.

Once again, The Merchant of Venice releases an amazing bottle in top-notch packaging. The kyphi note in this new perfume makes Eternal Sunrise highly interesting for me. The very fact, however, that this is yet another one of those infamous Harrods' Exclusives in a 100 ml bottle, and thus priced accordingly, simply means that for most perfume enthousiasts, the fragrance will remain well out of their price range. Such a pity. It'll nonetheless be interesting to read the first reviews.

Merchant of Venice always has pretty bottles, but this might be their prettiest yet.
