The Magic of Love: The New Eau de Parfum "Philtre" by Hiram Green

Hiram Green takes its new unisex fragrance "Philtre" on a floral and spicy scent journey inspired by a love potion from a medieval legend.

As long as we were in love, we made potions to evoke this feeling in others. We called them Philtres. When you drank them, the recipient fell madly in love with the giver. That was the story of Tristan and Isolde and the fate that befell Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

"Philtre" combines spicy, woody notes of clove and resins with intense, floral-sweet accords of garden carnation, jasmine and rose. A stem note lends the composition a refreshing, green lightness, rounded off by the sweet and creamy tones of vanilla.

The creation draws its inspiration from the love potion in the medieval saga "Tristan and Isolde" - a story of love, passion and tragedy. The plot tells of the forbidden love between the Cornish knight Tristan and the Irish princess Isolde. Tristan is commissioned to bring Isolde to Cornwall so that she can marry King Marke. But something unforeseen happens during the return journey: Tristan and Isolde unknowingly ingest a love potion. This love potion, which was originally intended for Isolde and King Marke, causes irrevocable love between Tristan and Isolde.

In the moonlight, the alchemist prepares his potion, a potion for love and its reciprocation. Around him are a dozen open wooden drawers, the contents of which have no name. He doesn't need to: he knows the recipe by heart. He carefully pours them into a goblet - a little fine spice powder, a splash of a viscous, ink-like tincture. And a single red clove as the finishing touch. As it simmers, the potion begins to glow and emits a light that warms the entire room.

In 2013, the Canadian-born designer presented his first fragrance "Moon Bloom", which is still one of the label's most popular scents today with its sweet, floral notes.
