The Wound as a Fragrance Theme: “Vulnus” by Filippo Sorcinelli

The Wound as a Fragrance Theme: “Vulnus” by Filippo Sorcinelli

With “Vulnus”, Filippo Sorcinelli expands his “UNUM” collection with an Extrait de Parfum that contrasts metallic and leathery accords with warm vanilla, caramel, and crème brûlée.

I had a body
before the night began to rain.
It was a house of flesh
with windows lit,
a small temple
where the soul rested its forehead
against the skin.
Then someone entered
in my most sacred darkness
and broke the bread of my light.

Filippo Sorcinelli

“Vulnus” opens with a cool, metallic iron accord that blends with dark vanilla and leather. As the fragrance unfolds, jasmine adds floral nuances and blends with caramelized sweetness. Finally, in the base notes, the gourmand side of the composition comes more to the forefront: crème brûlée and Italian egg liqueur provide creamy, warm facets that bring the fragrance to a close.

The Wound as Inspiration

The name “Vulnus” comes from Latin and means “wound.” With this fragrance, Filippo Sorcinelli, the brand’s founder and artistic director, aims to draw attention to physical and emotional wounds and the lasting scars they leave. On the occasion of the presentation in Florence, he described “Vulnus” as “the wound that becomes a message”.

The concept is intended to address various forms of violence—from physical and verbal assaults to online bullying. In this context, Sorcinelli does not view a scar as a blemish that should be hidden, but rather as part of one’s identity and history.

Vulnus. That is what I called my wound when it ceased to be a source of shame and became a source of strength. […] I have lost blood, but I have found gold. I have known the shadow, but now I rule my own night.

“Symphonie-Passion” is inspired by the organ playing of French musician Marcel Dupré in Rouen. “_Quando_rapita_in_estasi_” refers to Maria Callas in Gaetano Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammermoor. “Io Non Ho Mani Che Mi Accarezzino Il Volto”, on the other hand, draws on the work of Italian photographer Mario Giacomelli.

„Vulnus“ ist als Extrait de Parfum in einer Flakongröße von 100 ml erhältlich.
