This is fairie land. Nomansland, New Forest, Wiltshire. Friday 29th August 2025. Oh, I forgot, there's a perfume! It's only secondary to this setting. This is the vintage Goutal Ninfeo Mio, one of the best fig centered perfumes ever created.

Friday evening in the local park, enjoying a gorgeous sunset whilst walking the dog. I am currently slightly obsessed with this one. After falling hook, line and sinker (say it with Jeremy Irons' accent in Die Hard 3 and with the same sarcastic tone) for Iris Cartagena courtesy of the hyped up honest and impartial reviews of countless influencers on Insta(couldn't care less)gram and promptly reselling it on E(vil)bay, I decided to swim against the current, and like a greedily voracious but smart rainbow trout, have bitten the lesser known bait of Myrrhe Shadow. And so glad I am. Don't listen to the old boys banging about The King of panty droppers, Avenuts (yes, not a typo), and go instead for this one, you won't regret it. With the added bonus of being completely genderless, so it really doesn't matter who's panties are being dropped, be that bulgy trunks or G-strings. This perfume found my G-spot.

Into the woods* with Bois D'Armenie, on the morning walk with the dog. Found this bottle in my pocket, taken along accidentally on purpose. Oh well.... I might as well take a photo then. * shot on location 😉

Hubert's favourite juice, apparently used on a daily basis. SOTD?? Yeaah, same as yesterday... and the day before, and the day before, and... If this would've acted in Reservoir Dogs it would've been called Mr Cool Vetyver and it would've been wearing a black suit, white shirt, black tie and black shades. Of course. And it would've been the only surviving one from the crew. Walking out of the building, cool as ice. Or snow. PS Do you think I can call him Hubbie? Or Hubbs? Or is he gonna turn in his grave? Hmm... #irreverentlyblasphemous

One ultra cool perfume. It's cool but it's actually very warm. Paradoxically confusing? Not at all, my dear Watson. Don't ask, just roll with it. Whenever I wear this, I smell SO sexy I should be arrested. I smell SO sexy I'm tempted to ask myself out on a date. It's criminally unfair wearing this to the office, as it puts me on such pedestal as object of desire. I should come with a disclaimer: uncontrolled gestures of affection and physical touching are not the responsibility of the perfume wearer. You've been warned.

Never in my life a perfume elicited such a visceral reaction out of me. Created by Sheldrake,which most people know as Serge Lutens' main collaborator. Here, Sheldrake is unrecognisable from his usual Lutens style and managed to create a most astonishing perfume, which from my point of view is his Magnum Opus, his Mona Lisa, a modern vintage masterpiece, if there's such a thing. And I don't say this lightly, as I think some of his creations for Lutens are simply iconic. And as icons go, Bacall, Dietrich and Garbo would've worn this perfume. Daily. Or Cary Grant. don't have words to coherently put together in a review, but suffice it to say, it immensely surprised this jaded, blasé nose, convinced there's nothing else, or rather nothing new left to smell in this over saturated, fast world. Well, I was wrong, there is. One of the most original, brilliantly created perfumes of the last 20yrs.

Blackstrap Betty. Arguably the best coffee/espresso centric perfume ever created. No espresso beans have been used with or without their permission in this photoshoot and their rights fully respected (I might be wrong but I think they might've been on strike against unauthorised image use, AI and copyrights laws).

The perfume bottle without a name. Not for the house, not for itself. It's painfully niche, innit??.. Any hardcore perfume junkie should know what this is and who's the nose behind it. And if you don't, then you can't call yourself a hardcore perfume junkie. That's all. Oh, and before I forget, I give free shots to anyone to sue me for chronic FOMO. Go ahead, I'm a sitting duck. Take your shot. I fully deserve it.

OJ Man. The epitome of sophistication. The thinking man's perfume. Smoking velvet jacket, loose bow tie, sitting in a tall stool by the bar, nonchalantly holding a tumbler of neat single malt scotch, ideally a Macallan, in the right hand, whilst the left absent mindedly plays a couple of jazz notes on repeat at the nearby piano (I realise you cannot sit on a bar stool and play the piano at the same time, unless you have freakishly long arms, but indulge me!). And of course speaking in a Sean Connery voice. Every time I wear this my IQ jumps 50 points (but then again, my IQ is pretty low). My first ever OJ, and still my favourite. PS Oh, and one more thing, for those familiar with Basenotes and the Urban Legends started by the bros which relate to an unnamed Creed (starts with A, finished with entus😉), just ignore. THIS IS the original, true panty dropper.

Tartan. I miss Scotland in summer. And picnics. In Scotland. Of course. And wearing a kilt. And going commando. In Scotland. Of course. Because Scottish air is the best. And I like feeling airy. Of course.
