Cuir d'Oranger
This fragrance opens with an accord comprised of dry leather and delicate orange flower. Orris absolute gives each scent a distinctive finishing: a soapy finish to the orange flower and a powdery finish to the leather. A barely detectable animalistic base note adds a welcome dark edge to the composition. The orange flower accord vanishes when the fragrance transitions form the top to the heart notes, and only when it is gone I realise how smothering it was. I now see smooth leather enriched by patchouli and orris. A dash of jasmine sweetens the accord. Although Cuir d'Oranger greatly improves as it progresses, it cannot be compared to the similar Cuir Mauresque. The Serge Lutens offering is richer and more complex, whereas this Miller Harris scent is a superficial wasted opportunity.
