The mandarin comes at the end.
This morning my husband came into the kitchen with the post in his hand from the letterbox and pressed a padded envelope into my hand with the words: "For you, have you ordered anything?". I can't think of anything. Without further ado, I open the envelope and surprise, surprise, the perfume sample from the Parfumo competition! Great, I've never won anything before. I leave my husband in the kitchen with his questions about the contents of the envelope, already engrossed in the small packaging of the sample. No time for questions, I have more important things to do now.
I carefully spray a drop on the back of my hand and am briefly taken aback. I like what I smell, but somehow it also reminds me of something. Bianco latte? At least the coumarin note from the tonka bean reminds me of it. It's quite present in the opener. But I can also smell the coconut milk very well. The almond is also there and gives the coconut milk a slight - I'll call it "tart" - nuance. This makes it really smell like authentic coconut milk from the fresh nut to me. The tonka bean and coconut milk are bedded on a creamy, sweet vanilla base. I don't notice the mandarin at first, but I don't think that's a bad thing.
I would describe the sillage at this point as quite decent, I can smell the spray on my hand quite clearly and also think that the room smells of Vanilla Haze. That makes me happy, I leave smelling delicious and go about my day.
After a few hours, exactly 2 hours and 38 minutes to be precise, I sniff my hand again attentively. The coumarin note of the tonka bean has become softer, the coconut milk has merged further with the vanilla and has receded somewhat. But now I can smell something else. Mandarin, there you are! Not in a fresh citrusy form, though, but to my nose the smell of tangerine peel. Don't get me wrong, the mandarin is not super loud and present, but it resonates in the background. The sillage is a little quieter after 2.5 hours, but I can still detect the fragrance. After about 4 hours, Vanilla Haze became relatively close to the skin.
In the evening, I want to spray some more, but my sample is no longer in its place. I find it back in the living room in the hands of my husband, who is sniffing his hand and studying the small packet of fragrances. He sees me and says happily, "Coconut! I love coconut!" Great, I think, now I'll have to share the little sample. "It says it's got mandarin in it," he says, "but somehow I can't smell it." I smile at him and assure him: "The mandarin comes at the end."
