When the World Comes to an End
Admittedly, there are sometimes somewhat peculiar thoughts that haunt you during long car rides. Sometimes sensible, sometimes less so, perhaps even a bit absurd at times...

As I drove through storm and rain last night, I wondered what would be an appropriate perfume if one knew that the end of the world was imminent. In storm and chaos, amidst the crashing of the elements, in the fury of nature. As the very last perfume, as a crowning conclusion of a fragrant life, so to speak. What would be suitable for this - well, let’s say “ceremonial” - occasion?

There are indeed a number of treasures that seem fitting to face the end with dignity. For me, Jovan's “Musk Oil” or “Sex Appeal” would certainly be a good choice. Or you can’t go wrong with Cerruti's “1881,” the classic “Halston,” or Azzaro. Lauren's Polo and of course Aigner's “Silver” and the good old “No 1” would also be worth considering.

But suddenly I had the scent of Balenciaga's masterpiece “Portos” in my nose and I thought, “Yes, that would be it!” That’s how you make an exit, that’s how you celebrate properly!

About the scent: There isn’t much known about Balenciaga by name. The few fragrances created during Cristóbal Balenciaga's lifetime are hardly known today. Even here on Parfumo, they are largely unknown. So we are left with the later releases, of which Portos from 1980 is surely the most remarkable.

Not an everyday scent by any means, not designed for the masses, “Portos” is still not a choice for daily wear today. Certainly a bit antiquated, but I also find it a bit too noble to wear to work.
However, for special occasions, it is a celebration, a delight that I can only warmly recommend to fans of the 80s.
Especially since the prices are relatively affordable, particularly for the 15 ml minis. “Portos” is still hard to come by, though...

So, the iron reserve Portos is ready, a good wine is chilled, and I’m sure I’ll find the right cigar as well.

So the apocalypse can come!

Who is afraid of getting older?
Admittedly, getting old is not easy. Everything goes slower because the tired bones no longer want to cooperate. Today it hurts here and tomorrow there. The hair is slowly thinning, the teeth are made of ceramic, and the hemorrhoids make existence difficult. And what about love life? Let's not talk about that...

No, there are more beautiful times in a person's life than their old days. But - here on Parfumo, one also learns to recognize and appreciate the few advantages of aging: the noble perfumes for the mature gentleman!

The most important thing is to embrace one's age. Those who think they need to show up at 60 with "One Million" can certainly do so. However, they not only risk making a fool of themselves - worse still, they miss out on the wonderful scents that make aging not only more beautiful but almost a little rewarding and desirable...

Ralph Lauren's "Polo" undoubtedly belongs to those gems reserved for the more mature generation. And honestly, aren't the "old" ones to be envied?!
Polo is not made for young, inexperienced snobs. They should continue to poison themselves with Rabanne, Puma, or Diesel. "Polo" is for established men who know how life works. Those who have learned to appreciate the beautiful things in life.
What does it matter to such a man whether "Polo" is currently "IN" or not? That's what little boys ask, not men...

Lauren's "POLO" is undoubtedly a milestone, a masterpiece, a scent to fall in love with. Heavy, aromatic, and yet somehow still quite gentle. It conveys that masculine security that a young man cannot provide. Presence and charisma - that is what sets "POLO" apart from its young competitors...

One can only wish a man reaches that maturity of age where he judges the things of life with wisdom instead of youthful inexperience. For those who have arrived there, "POLO" is waiting. They will wear it and love it. And above all - they will no longer have to fear getting old. Because only eternally young boys overwhelmed by the obsession with youth grow old, but never real men...

Let's grow old in style!!!

A nice companion on cold days
No, no... it's really not that bad!

In fact, it's actually quite good. Spicy and warm, it caresses you, almost lovingly wrapping its wearer in its embrace. No lightness and freshness here, but rather a rich aroma. A high recognition value with good longevity rounds off the appealing picture.
Certainly not for warm summer days, but in late autumn or deep winter, its attributes can convince...

However, as has been said, one shouldn't necessarily point out to anyone what they are wearing, because the modest image of the brand and especially the ridiculous name "Bruno Banani" do detract significantly from the overall impression.

In my opinion, by a considerable margin, the best Banani scent. Perhaps not the ultimate wisdom for perfume freaks, but definitely worth recommending for a rendezvous from time to time. And for those looking for a simple yet pleasant and reliable everyday companion, this is an excellent choice, as the price-performance ratio is top! You can hardly get more perfume for less money...

Good Old Times
"Weil pour Homme" is another child of that time when men were still allowed to be men and could underline this with a fitting perfume. Even after more than 30 years, one is still fascinated by the rugged, masculine beauty of this product.

The creation of "Weil pour Homme" is fundamentally quite simple:

One takes as a base Fabergé's classic "Brut" and adds a strong dash of "Azzaro pour Homme," and voila - a true classic is ready!
So simple can the life of a perfumer sometimes be...

The fact that Weil ultimately did not achieve success can - considering the success of similarly styled perfumes - only be attributed to unfortunate marketing. The scent itself is absolutely wonderful, even if it is a bit out of time. The sillage and longevity are certainly impressive.

Anyone who appreciates solid vintage scents and finds a good deal, perhaps even as a mini, should seize the opportunity; they will surely enjoy it.

Brilliant - more brilliant - Azzaro!!!
No, there is nothing more to discuss, nothing to doubt, nothing to question: Azzaro is a masterpiece in every respect! Starting from the timeless bottle to the stunning fragrance. A radiant jewel in the realm of scents!

I have also heard about the 300 ingredients and I believe that immediately! An elusive nobility, perhaps a bit soapy and yet so wonderfully bitter - that is the result of this magnificent recipe. Unbelievable how much masculinity radiates from this and how wonderfully soothing this scent is to the senses. One wants to bathe in it, to drown and sink...

The mere fact that "Azzaro pour Homme" has been able to secure a permanent place on the shelves of major perfumeries for 35 years speaks volumes. Or who could compete with that? Where are the big names from the 70s? At best, they can still be ordered in large perfumeries, but often one has to resort to the internet.

Not so with Azzaro. Since the sales figures apparently remain stable, procurement is not a problem. The price is also very reasonable, because when you think about it, it is outrageous what some modern designers charge for their concoctions.

CONCLUSION:
Azzaro is undoubtedly one of the best, most noble, and also most exclusive perfumes ever created. Those who do not know it do not really know what the peak performances of a perfumer are. They should make sure to experience Azzaro before it is time to descend into the crypt. Because one would truly miss something in life - and I rarely say that about a fragrance...
