Surprising as the Leaning Tower of Pisa
In case you're wondering what Bruno Banani Man and the Tower of Pisa have in common, here we go: both the bottle and the tower are tilting. It is almost impossible not to think of the leaning tower by looking at the container. Albeit I noticed the unconventional bottle design since the very first time I came across Bruno Banani's colognes during my frequent business travels back and forth Germany. Yet, I was somehow skeptical about even approaching the testers for smelling the cap. It sounds weird. I'm not too fond of that bias, and now I'm more open toward novelty and unknown. By the way, it was just yesterday afternoon that I stumbled into this brand again, and it was standing on the shelf on sale, merely ten bucks or so for a 75 ml size. All of a sudden, I picked the tester up and sprayed twice on my arm and just waited for it. Whoa! A cloud of licorice-like aroma enriched by something green and aromatic starts lingering in the air. Honestly, I was expecting anything but this.

BB Man on my male skin opens up with a blast of star anise seeds, so powerful that for a few moments, you feel like entering a candy shop full of licorice bonbons of any kind and shape. I like both the taste and the smell of licorice things, and this scent has precisely that vibe. Loud at first, then it became slightly moderate, the aromatic lavender and basil start playing around.

It is after a while that a more gourmand and spicy accord smoothly replace the bitter opening. Pungent dried clove buds melt with a freshly made cup of coffee, a bit of caraway, and a touch of sweet heliotrope complete this image. It is quite curious about this heart. I thought to smell Bulgarian rose from time to time, but there is no hint of any rose in here, so it couldn't be Bulgarian rose I told myself. Still, the redolence of reddish rose's petals exudes from this beating heart.

Afterward, it turns into a sumptuous incense and cedarwood trail, in the end, and remains a subtle trace of raisins with cloves aroma. I think I smell for the first half an hour a pleasant spiced coffee, then vanilla and tonka blend is almost noteworthy to me, a bit smokey and a tad woody. Ouch, I forgot to spend few words about patchouli. Maybe, cause it is in its light shape here, not too heavy, dirty, or even earthy.

Long story short, on my skin, it seems to last long with pretty moderate sillage. Though it's a beautiful scent, rather cheap, but still unusual, thus "not for everyone." It's a strong scent, and over-spraying it will make it extremely cloying. The spiciness, sweetness, and woodiness make me recommend it for cool and cold weather, spring, fall, and winter.

Entirely sincerely speaking, I would say it could be easily a unisex fragrance for ladies who dare wearing masculine stuff. I am puzzled and intrigued to read such different opinions about this scent. But yet, someone's skin is just like a fingerprint - unique, and so is one's perception.

Will we ever feel young again?
Bruno Banani Man is a special fragrance for me. Dedicating a comment to this scent is a matter of the heart. Together with Bruno Banani's Magic Man, it was one of my first self-purchased fragrances. I still remember the circumstances very clearly: I was on the Bruno Banani website to order some fashion items from this brand. The two fragrances caught my eye without me ever having tested them. I was exactly 21 years old. Before that, I had only used the fragrances I received as gifts. I was far from having a passion for scents like I do now.

Since I had little to no expectations of fragrances back then, I liked both scents. I liked this Bruno Banani Man even more than Magic Man. I felt well accompanied by it and used it often. In hindsight, I don't see this fragrance as a youthful mistake. I stand by this scent, and I still love it today, even though I wear it rarely. When I spray it on, I look back with melancholy. Since the sense of smell is strongly connected to long-term memory, such flashbacks are not unusual.
Memories of youth are often very beautiful because you are simply free. You live from day to day without really thinking much. The time around 20 is a beautiful time for me. The mix of youthful carefreeness, groundedness, and simply the curiosity for the new. Just these emotions are something very special. Also, the feelings at this age are very intense. When I spray the fragrance today, many memories resurface.

After some digressions about the scent: I like it today just as much as I did back then. Probably even better because of the memories. I used to wear it on every occasion, whether it was winter or midsummer. Today, I would rather wear it exclusively on cold to mild days. It has a light heaviness that doesn’t feel too thick. Theoretically, it is a year-round fragrance, although I would recommend it most for spring and autumn.
In terms of scent, it is very multifaceted. It has freshness, sweetness, spiciness, and also woody and slightly powdery accents. I like such fragrances that don't lean too strongly in one direction. It has a beautiful lavender note, and anise is also perceptible here. For me, this is a composition where you can't really pick out many individual notes. It is truly a composition that convinces as a whole. The sweetness is well noticeable with tonka bean and vanilla, although it is not too vanilla-heavy. I love this tonka bean sweetness in many fragrances. Overall, it is a feel-good composition that stands out and could earn you some compliments.
The performance is very good for a drugstore fragrance. Sillage and longevity are convincing across the board.

I love this scent. In my comment, there are more digressions than scent descriptions. Memories and emotions are what make a fragrance special to me. The best fragrance is worthless if it doesn’t move you.

Time travel to the year 2007...
I stood in the drugstore and saw this bottle. I was almost ashamed to pick it up. My pride made me hesitate, "after all, you operate in the niche segment," I thought to myself. Glancing left, glancing right. No one around! So here we go. I grabbed a test strip, sprayed it on, and slowly brought it to my nose:

Flashback to the year 2007... It’s autumn, and the trees are slowly losing their colorful leaves. It’s stormy, and a fog is starting to roll in. I had just come out of a nice hot shower. In the haze of memory, I see myself standing in my underwear in my childhood room until suddenly a distant "Uh-Oh" echoes. It was the notification tone from the well-known messenger with the green flower. Full of excitement, I ran to the old computer with the CRT monitor. A girl I had just met wrote to me asking if I wanted to come over. "Of course," I replied, after all, I was done with school at 1:00 PM, it was Friday. Was that a good idea? After all, it’s a girl. Alone with her? What do you do then? Are her parents home? Is this already a date? Questions raced through my mind.

She was 14, almost 15 years old, and I was still the insecure 13. She secretly opened the front door for me; after all, her parents couldn’t know that a boy was coming over. Once we arrived at the attic apartment, an oriental masculine scent hit my nose that quickly faded since the window was open. Was that a perfume or the smell of a hookah? There was one right in the middle of the room. I thought nothing of it and lay down with her on the sofa. We cuddled, talked about everything under the sun, but suddenly... Again! An oriental spicy scent wafted up to my nose... I was starting to wonder. Was she seeing the Italian guy from the 9th grade? But then it hit me, it was her stuffed animal that smelled like that! I just had to ask her about it. With a laugh, she got up, walked to the cupboard, and pulled out a bottle of Bruno Banani Man, confessing her sensual love for this scent. She almost went crazy when she smelled it. The bottle looked valuable and had something unique with its tilted stand. I only knew it from the commercials. That bald guy in the leather jacket and women stroking him. I also remembered the slogan. "Bruno Banani, not for everybody."
I carefully sprayed the scent first on the back of my hand to get acquainted with it and finally on my neck. After all, nothing could go wrong. I couldn't have made a better landing.
You can probably guess the rest of the story. It turned into a long day that stretched into the night. Without a light, I quietly went down the stairs and closed the door behind me. On the way home, two things came to my mind. On one hand, the euphoria and feelings of happiness, and even after 10 hours, a sweet delicious vanilla...

By now, my shame had faded. I grabbed the packaging and went to the checkout. About 20€/50ml. A great price, but after all, it’s a drugstore scent. But it packs a punch! It’s very well received by the ladies, regardless of age. Unfortunately, I have to say that the scent is no longer what it once was. The longevity has unfortunately diminished significantly, and the scent composition seems slightly different to me. Nevertheless, you can’t go wrong with it. A mainstream scent from old times that suits every occasion. Hate it or love it. Whether in the office, going out, or just to indulge in memories :-)

A Long Time Ago..
What kind of scent is this, I wonder? My father tells me, it's Bruno Banani.

'Can I borrow it for a bit?' Yes, he said, and just like that, it was mine..

My first own perfume, and what can I say, even today I occasionally smell it. It accompanied me until 2018 before I truly entered this.. love =) Of course, compared to others, it's not a high-quality scent, but I associate a lot with it. Back then, when my father was home, I could smell it! And I actually received compliments often in vocational school. I have an emotional 'attachment' to it, but the evaluation refers to my current perspective.

For the price, you can still use it occasionally today :) I haven't worn it in a long time, but I still own 3 full bottles.. Old love, as they say, never dies.. Right? =)

The King of Drugstores
In the summer semester of 2017, I had to do an internship at a school for the subject of French as part of my studies. This internship was very helpful and a lot of fun, but I had to attend a so-called "accompanying seminar," which was quite the opposite. The only cool thing was that you regularly met up with fellow students.
One of them was Klaus. Many people at our institute knew him because he is a very nice and extroverted person whose smile usually makes you laugh as well. Furthermore, it should be noted that his style is always "on point," and as a man, you can pick up a thing or two from him.
So, I went to the seminar with a bit of a bad mood on a spring afternoon. I was quite stressed at university, and a lot was happening in my life at that moment, and to be honest: this seminar was the last thing I wanted to do right now.
I arrived, sat down grumpily next to Klaus, who immediately started to cheer me up. He succeeded quite quickly; after a while, I completely forgot my bad mood. He has that effect on people, thanks to his smile and funny nature. But this time, it was something else.
When we had to be quieter because the professor was explaining something, I noticed that Klaus smelled really good this time. Normally, I had never noticed his fragrances, but this time I thought to myself, "wow." A sweet scent that also has something clean and "smooth" about it. It’s a fragrance that radiates a kind of coolness that isn’t forced. It’s not the cool bad boy with a leather jacket and a cigarette in the corner of his mouth; it’s the guy in a light blue polo with a clean-shaven face. The word "suave" comes to mind in English.
Of course, I immediately asked him what it was, and he said it was Bruno Banani Man. At first, I thought he might have mispronounced Giorgio Armani because Bruno Banani are those drugstore fragrances, right? Those really cheap ones with the ugly, phallic bottles, right? Yes, yes, that’s exactly what it is. Since I still looked at him incredulously, he pulled the little mishap out of his backpack. And lo and behold, yes, it really smells like that. Incredible.
Just two days later, I was more or less a proud owner of this fragrance. A big surprise for me at this price. The scent itself is really very good, in my opinion. It smells clean and is a great companion in everyday life. I often thought that I would have liked to know this fragrance back in school. The longevity is more than acceptable for the price. The sillage isn’t an absolute bomb, but if you’re sitting next to Klaus, you’ll definitely notice it. Only the bottle is, in my opinion, a downside, but no one has to see it.

At this point, I want to thank Klaus for this little tip, and I hope he brings as much laughter to his future students as he always did with us during our studies. Bon voyage et bonne chance!

Astonishing as the Leaning Tower of Pisa the scent is an oriental blend of aniseed, clove & coffee, and a tail of creamy tonka and vanilla!

A grapefruit of an EdT -- a citrus, but not a whiff of sweetness. As fresh, punchy, occasionally warm, light, and androgynous as youth.

Cheap price with an even cheaper smell - definetly more fresh deodorant then perfume

it might be warm and aromatic, but I find it fresh and light . With its discrete sillage it's the perfect office scent!

There's a lot in there that I like (lavender, heliotrope, sandalwood) and it's not even as artificial as many drugstore scents: It has stood the test of time.

Spicy and fresh. Woody and sweet.
Perfect as a deodorant, but as a perfume, you don't reach me.
Once fabulous, now unfortunately insignificant.

My drugstore favorite. It can compete with expensive fragrances. Good performance for the price range. Soothing and quirky. Love it.

That's how it all started back then. My first fragrance, and Bruno Banani's best. I've evolved, but it still holds a place in my heart.

When faced with the question, "Hobby collection vs. collecting frenzy," a well-made spicy fresh scent at a low price makes me ponder.

Everyone had this in the 00s. Now it's almost retro. One day it will stand in the Hall of Fame of drugstore kings next to Brut & co.^^
