Runaway Fusion with Peak Luminosity
The previous review I think captures this well. Upon initial spray you’re greeted with with a barrage of juicy sweet citrus notes. Fresh sliced oranges and bursting grapefruit juice blended with the tang of bergamot. As it dries the pineapple, aided by apple, seemingly appear out of nowhere. All of this screams summer at the top of it lungs.
Then slowly over the next few hours the earthier base notes of oakmoss and ambergris, patchouli and musk slowly evolve with a touch of ginger to lift them off the skin.
One could consider this a brighter, juicer Hacivat with the caveat that it’s far more playful than it’s Turkish brethren.
I’m curious what Aaron will choose to do with this formula. Supernova was initially planned solely as a limited edition summer fragrance. However, as indicated by its frequent sell-outs and restocking it’s clear Aaron might have struck upon his first real commercial hit. All of this this despite the fact the Aventus craze seems to have already passed. His classics like Onyx, Hard Candy and Daddy will always have a cult-like following among sweet Oud aficionados but they’re hardly running up the sales charts.

So we will see. The commercial gods are fickle and Aaron rarely plays by their rules.

2023 version Clean with a twist.
I’m sitting here trying to place an accord that doesn’t match the notes. It’s an expression of clean I remember from my youth but can’t place. Anyway, I have the new reformulated 2023 version and I’m not experiencing any longevity issues. I never had the older version so I can’t compare, but after the brief but rich citrus opening, this settles into a patchouli, vetiver drydown that last forever. The patchouli continues to develop the entire time ranging from earthy to sweet to a little dirty (after it’s been on me all day). There are a few other notes that pop up to say hi a couple of times, most notably some lovely apple and amber. I hardly notice the ambroxen . But along the way I keep getting these whiffs of something from my youth that I can’t figure out, it’s odd sense of clean. At any rate after applying in the morning I can still pick up the patchouli at night, so much so that I can’t really layer anything after work without showing first.
Since it’s getting warmer I expect I will go through this bottle rather quick. It’s a decent wear that offers some unique facets while overall remaining safe.

Why is this so refreshing?
I had no expectations. This was a throw-away add to my ATH order, a novelty fragrance that I wasn’t going to take seriously but I hoped might be fun. A rumor it was similar to Oud Wood was certainly enticing. It’s not, btw, although I could see where someone might get hints.
Instead, at least off my skin, it’s bizarrely refreshing. I get the mint, a citrus blend and the marine notes right off the top, and they’re sharp. About those marine notes: do you know that humid smell you get when you approach an indoor pool just prior to the chlorine hitting? Like in a fancy hotel? It’s exactly like that.
Later on as it dries it does get warm and spicer but it remains clean. Spring is right around the corner and this is scratching an itch I didn’t know I had, a spicy yet uplifting fresh fragrance.
The Fake series is Aaron’s play on using synthetic Oud aroma chemicals and this does nothing to hide its synthetic character. It absolutely shouldn’t work. So it’s very likely I’m its only fan, but so far this is my second favorite from ATH.

Better than my initial impression.
Took me a few tries but I’m starting to like this. The sharp orange and bitter grapefruit initially comes off as a generic citrusy, synthetic aroma. However as it eases into the skin it’s much more appealing and natural. Decent performance for a fresh scent. Reminds me a bit of Voyage D’Hermes but without the cardamon.

I had tried this when I first got it, and again a week later and both times I thought it was too sharp and synthetic to enjoy. 3rd times a charm I guess.

I hate loving you.
Dried suede with powdered spices wafting around. My guilty pleasure. The opening isn’t miles from African leather with a touch more citrus and a smidge less cardamon. I initially didn’t care for it but now I crave it. The drydown, however. is something else entirely.

Possibly my driest fragrance, when it’s warm this can ramp up after 2 hours to become room filling and, possibly, irritating. In the cold it’s much tamer. I don’t have a lot occasions to wear this. Festivals, maybe concerts or outdoor markets. But I wear it at home a lot, far too often for the cost frankly. This is the fragrance that I do not care everyone else hates it. This was made for me (but retail priced for someone much wealthier.)

I’d only recommend it to one of those tortured artists that lives in an impossibly large loft studio downtown. Maybe a travel influencer or if you perform in dressage.

I just wish I didn’t love it so much.
